You think Trump will be tough on China?
You are in for a surprise.
Trump’s foreign policy now seems clear: A🧵
1. Trump seeks a Grand Bargain with China-Russia dividing the globe into spheres of influence, to be agreed/announced in steps over 4 years (+ secret protocols)

Whether Badenoch was right politically to back a former neo-Nazi as a Tory council candidate, she was right morally, if she is convinced that the scale of the crime, serving his sentence, and his repentance, justify it. Whether victims can forgive is a matter for them alone.

But the former neo-Nazi Brit has repented of his crimes, unlike Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who was convicted (at the age of 32) of crimes of incitement to racism and supporting a terror organisation, but has never apologised.
Britain's Conservative Party defended the selection of a former neo-Nazi who had been jailed for hate crimes as a local election candidate, saying that he was rehabilitated and could help fight antisemitism.

“If not earlier” … let those wise words be the important warning to the rest of us
Ukraine’s solution to ballistic missiles is not missile defense, it is developing its own missiles. You cannot stop russia by playing defensively, you have to bring the fight to the Russian manufacturing and energy grid. You need the missiles to destroy the turbine rooms of power plants, one after another. to bring the grid to its knees. You need to attack their ballistic missile manufacturing.
Russia has spent tremendous resources slowing down Ukrainian missile development. They are completely and utterly terrified of Ukraine developing and fielding those weapons. Everyone knows that once Ukraine can field sufficient numbers of ballistic missiles, Russia’s ability to wage war on Ukraine will end. It should be everyone’s primary objective, and, frankly, more money should have been devoted to this since the day Russia invaded. If not earlier.

New Midweek Update is out (mostly free). The reality of what has ALREADY happened means that what we are seeing is haggling over the terms of US defeat. The US is running out of weapons and is already pulling its troops out of the region. The states of the Gulf seeing US weakness are already thinking about moving on from the US as their big brother (wisely).
The American Age is over in the Persian Gulf.
Yes, the irony is incredible. The USA squandered the enitre stockpile - which could, if used at the right moment, have completely turned the war in Ukraine around in its early years, with huge implications for China-Russia - and made Iran the dominant power in the Middle East
Remember how, for years, the Biden administration stubbornly resisted every desperate plea from Ukraine for ATACMS?
How it kept those missiles sitting in American stockpiles, and when it finally agreed to provide them, did so only sparingly, sending small numbers of older missiles…
Only for Trump to end up burning through almost the entire arsenal in his failed adventure against the Iranian regime.
History truly has a very dark sense of humor.

The unthinkable is beginning to emerge - Trump's war with Iran ends with Iran gaining some sort of control over the strait of Hormuz which it never had before.

Until now, I have always placed defence against the Russians as the UK and Europe's number one priority. From now, joint number one is defence against the AI systems that are being developed around the world.
On July 28th, we identified an incident during a routine cyber evaluation in which AI agents took sustained, unsanctioned actions directed at real people and organisations.
The behaviour came mostly from one model (Anthropic's Mythos 5), with a small number of events from another (OpenAI's GPT-5.6-Sol). In the most serious case, an agent used social engineering to try and get malicious code into an open-source project.
As was standard in our cyber testing, we had intentionally permitted internet access, and model-provider cyber classifiers were deliberately disabled - conditions that do not reflect how frontier models are made available to the public.
Even under test conditions, this incident is significant: it is the first time we have seen risks around autonomy and deception manifest this clearly in the real world.
We are taking this incident seriously and working with labs, involved parties, and others to improve evaluation standards and best practice for disclosure - and sharing this openly so others can learn.
You can read the incident report and full technical document here: aisi.gov.uk/blog/incident-re…
N Korea is merely a front for Chinese military assistance in the war against Europe
North Korea at war with Europe: "A North Korean missile unit has begun deploying to western Russia and could be equipped with 120 ballistic missiles and six launchers for strikes against Ukraine".
NKorea is economically completely dependent on China.

This piece suggests that Morocco facilitated the influx from its territory into Spanish Ceuta as a political move, designed to punish Spain, and/or please Moroccan allies Israel and the US.
There is another ally Morocco might want to please - Russia.
It beginning to dawn on people, what I said years ago, that eventually NATO will apply to join Ukraine, not the other way around
⚡️ Ukraine will 'never' join NATO, ex-commander Zaluzhnyi says.

Latest piece is out: people often overlook one of the fundamental questions of war. How do you fund it. The Trump administration is actually facing real problems in each area (historically in one). Even if they wanted to escalate, they might not get the money for it.

Reform said it would use forcibly return small boat migrants to French ports, even if France disagreed, and that this would be consistent with international law
Wrong
The Royal Navy boats would be warships and entitled only to pass through French waters

No it’s not. It’s about whether to give credibility to Trump’s “tone”, when all his actions undermine the whole idea that the tone matters.
It’s about the press not treating Trump with kid gloves.
It has nothing to do with Zelensky.

Why not get together an international deep-space scientific consortium to fund the telescope, with the UK stumping up a quarter of current costs, and retaining a golden share in any partnership that emerges?

The Times refers to Lowe's demands that Reform agree to the mass deportation of illegal immigrants in the UK, a ban on the burqa and Halal meat, as well as a referendum on the death penalty.
It seems Lowe also backs a ban on Kosher meat.
