Spending time this week updating a talk, and doing a bit more research, ready to turn into a video. Looking at Lord of the Manor of #Thatcham, Borough of Thatcham, Patron of the living and Squire. And the reputed manor of Henwick (See nickbits.co.uk/blog/2017/07/… on @nickbits )

My #Thatcham history research for Dunston House (see @nickbits / nickbits.co.uk/blog/2023/10/… ) starting to build a much more complex picture of owners and tenants.

Last year I took part in #allaboutthatplace with "Thatcham: Whats in a name?" - see youtube.com/watch?v=1U9jYQTq…. Looking at doing it again this year, short 10 min piece. Looking at possibly Roman Thatcham, Saxon Thatcham
or Dunston House (our last manor house). Thoughts? Suggestions?

I have had several say to me over the last year about the Vikings in #Thatcham. Once again NO, Thatcham is a Saxon settlement, read more on Saxon Thatcham on @nickbits ( nickbits.co.uk/blog/2022/08/… ) - who also originated our name (see nickbits.co.uk/blog/2022/05/… )

Our @drnickyoung has been researching the development of the place name #Thatcham for a while. Check out his article on the subject on the @nickbits blog ( nickbits.co.uk/blog/2022/05/… ) or the video he did for #allaboutthatplace (@SocGenealogists) youtube.com/watch?v=1U9jYQTq…

Heard one self proclaimed "local historian" telling the history of the Kennet & Avon Canal being completed in the 1700's. NO. Can't get this across enough, check your sources, use more than one source, etc... A brief bit on my @nickbits site on the K&A nickbits.co.uk/blog/2021/11/…

It would seem the most popular post on the @nickbits blog at present is the Dunston House - nickbits.co.uk/blog/2023/10/… - article. So many topics to get more research on this year, Chamberhouse Castle nickbits.co.uk/blog/2018/01/… and the French Gardens for starters. #Thatcham

Have got more data to add to my #Berkshire placename research, specifically for #Newbury and #Thatcham. Read up on one on my @nickbits blog at nickbits.co.uk/blog/2022/05/… or take a look at the video youtube.com/watch?v=1U9jYQTq… - also new version of that to come soon.

Old #Thatcham photograph in my collection. Afraid no idea of date. Another old Thatcham landmark. This is Coopers Cottage, later known as Beverley House. Around 1958 it was demolished to make way for Beverley Close and Coopers Crescent. See @nickbits blog nickbits.co.uk/blog/2021/03/…

That’s my post topic for the @nickbits blog sorted then, will show some maps and explain the changes in #Thatcham boundary in a post later this month. In mean time attached a graph of the population (see nickbits.co.uk/blog/2018/10/… ), can clearly see two boundary changes in the 1800s
