All my Twitter friends know that I have been working on helping create a new degree at Northeastern for the past several years.
The degree is a BS in Quantitative Finance.
I am so happy to announce that it is finally launching!

Go Kevin!
“Part of the independence of the Federal Reserve is we stay in our lane. Independence is a two-way street...We let people that do trade policy and fiscal policy stay in their lane too,” Warsh said."

Claude is helping me with some retirement planning spreadsheets and I am finding myself telling him/her/them "thank you! I'll be back to you soon" is this a slippery slope
A tale as old as time... just because investors "demand" a product doesn't mean you have to provide one. What the heck, Vanguard, Wellington, and Blackstone?
I'm super excited to serve as one of the faculty mentors for this AFA program! The mentoring date is January 2, 2027, the day before the formal AFA meetings begin.
It's a wonderful and exciting program ..please consider applying and/or sharing with your junior faculty members.

I’ve noticed that my friends who are already TT professors/on track to be tend to have pretty “lowbrow” habits, as in watch reality TV and play Nintendo and don’t read many novels, while my friends with good taste are largely half-employed and cursed to wander the earth

My column this week on what Wall Street's cringemaking boosterism for the SpaceX IPO tells you about investment banking.
Comes with one of my favourite ever illustrations (I can take no credit) and one my my favourite ever subheadings (I demand the credit).
Super interesting article (weirdly, the title in my NYT feed is: "60 Percent of Grades at Harvard Were A’s. Enough Is Enough.")
Fellow academics, do most of your schools have forced curves? The average GPA in my advanced undergraduate finance elective is a low B+.
Right on!!!
One of the dumber things you hear lately, from a lot of supposedly non-dumb people, is “stocks and bonds are now trading positively correlated so you now desperately need this other investment that’s way way more correlated with stocks than are bonds.”
Those investments are the typical. Privates (which are just equity, so it’s “you need more equity to diversify your equity”), buffer funds (which are just equity + cash minus some number), and crypto (which increasingly trades like equity, and is, you know, mostly nonsense, but even if you love it it’s currently bringing more equity exposure than bonds).
My colleagues latest explaining:
My colleague wrote "add more flares" instead of "add flair" in an email and I will never stop thinking about how amazing this is
Do you guys Strava? I have taken to using it to record the functional fitness tasks of a 57 year old woman...
Reading my faculty annual activity reports and can I just say that I have the best best best colleagues in the world, hands down.
My goal for all of you in 2026: find yourself someone that looks at you the way Maurice looks at me. (Bonus if they also keep you occupied when building spreadsheets).
Happy NY!!
By all accounts, Rob Reiner was one of those people that went through the world making the lives of everyone around him better in a myriad of ways, both small and quiet and big and bold. We'd all do well to live by his example. RIP RR.
