Merrill College students know their rights as journalists.
"Cat Murphy is a master's student at the University of Maryland, credentialed as a reporter for our Capital News Service and doing the job we teach our students to do. Cat recorded openly in a public space alongside other news outlets, and that is her legal right," Dean Rafael Lorente (@DeanLorente) said. "I'm proud of how she handled herself in a difficult situation."

Interesting follow-up story from Andrew about a person some Nebraskans may remember for her biofuels work and no-bid contract.
In early 2024, Julie Bushell was lobbying state leaders to buy technology that state experts didn't believe in.
By summer, she had a no-bid contract and seemed poised to get another one, records obtained by @flatwaterfreep show.

TCU has banned @startelegram and pulled credentials over reporting of a locker room assault that resulted in a case filing with TCU campus police.
@StevenMJohnson_ has been told that the decision stemmed from the victim receiving threats after the reporting, but Steven never identified the victim until the victim made a public statement on his Instagram about the assault three days after his initial reporting.
Steven’s trip to Ireland this weekend for TCU’s game against North Carolina is still on, despite TCU pulling his credential for the game.
The Star-Telegram is the only full-time outlet covering TCU athletics.

I worked @starsandstripes in the early 2000s. Standing up against censorship from meddling military leaders was always a struggle. Proud that Slavin, @lara_korte and Lederer enforced a red line against illegal Pentagon interference -- and furious that they have to. @RepDonBacon
The Pentagon on Friday moved to fire the editor-in-chief of Stars and Stripes as well as its retiring publisher and a civilian reporter who covers the Middle East for the news organization.

"I am being fired for stating in a CBS interview that censorship of news for service members would constitute a red line. The Pentagon's public affairs office has charged me with insubordination," editor-in-chief Eric Slavin told CBS News in a statement.

Pentagon has given separation notices to both the publisher and the editor in chief of Stars and Stripes, the U.S. military news outlet partly funded by American taxpayers, according to sources familiar with the matter. The notices, delivered Friday, gave publisher Max Lederer and editor in chief Erik Slavin five days to appeal their dismissals.
The cause cited was insubordination, one of the sources said.
