Broccoli (W22) is building an AI front office for home services businesses, answering calls, following up with leads, and booking appointments across voice and text.
Today, they serve more than 500 customers, are booking jobs at a run rate of over $1 billion a year, and expect to end the year at more than $60 million in ARR, up from zero just two years ago, after recently raising a $30 million Series B.
In this fireside, @call_broccoli's founders @abhishekjain25 and @adityaketkar join YC's @gustaf to share the long path to finding that business, from an earlier EV startup that never found product-market fit to visiting 140 contractors across the Bay Area to understand their biggest problems firsthand. They explain how embedding inside a plumbing company led to the first version of Broccoli, why answering missed calls became the wedge, and how AI could eventually reshape the work of technicians themselves.

Congrats to @call_broccoli (W22) on raising $52M across their Series A and Series B!
Broccoli’s AI agents answer calls for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical companies around the clock, booking jobs directly into the scheduling software contractors already use and following up on open estimates.
After their EV startup stalled, @abhishekjain25 and @adityaketkar knocked on 140 contractor doors until a Sacramento plumbing owner gave them five minutes. They built the first product from her office in three weeks, and today she’s Broccoli’s COO.
More than 1,500 home service businesses now run on Broccoli, with over 10 million customer conversations handled and 2.5 million appointments booked.

Grateful to be building Broccoli with this team. Today’s announcement is a big milestone, but what excites me most is how much we still get to build for the people who keep our homes running.
We’re just getting started 🥦
Broccoli has raised our Series A and Series B, both led by @khoslaventures with @ycombinator
Home services deserves tech that works as hard as its people. We're just getting started 🥦🥦🥦

Vertical voice agents are some of the fastest growing companies our team @a16z is seeing in the AI era.
But how do you sell a voice agent into businesses? Most customers won't go from fully human call center -> 100% AI overnight.

It’s amazing that no model has caught up with Claude on coding. Even if they look good on benchmark they’re still not as good at generating working good looking modern web apps.

One of the best indicators of a hot market is YC founders building there.
And these founders are increasingly choosing (or pivoting to) one space...AI voice agents!

Today, I had a weird @momentjs moment. Many of Moment.js's methods mutate the original object instead of returning a new one.
Always use .clone() to perform operations that might modify the original moment.
