Oh, I see. This is clearer now. Elon and his mum think we're all their employees. xitter.cf/mayemusk/status/160455…
This makes absolute sense. When I give a talk for a corporation, I don’t promote other corporations. If I did, I would be fired on the spot and never booked again. Is that hard to understand?

IMPORTANT: Those at-home tests you’ll be able to order next week won’t arrive by Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza or New Year’s. BUT! If you have private insurance you can walk into most drug stores and get 8 free at-home tests at no cost PER INSURED PERSON, EVERY 30 DAYS.

Obviously the point of moderation isn't to please me personally. But I do wish it were easier to actually avoid toxic content, instead of having it delivered in a shell of "I do not approve of this toxic content that I'm nonetheless sharing."

Delegating is hard because you have to intentionally not do stuff that you want to do because you delegated it. That only leaves the stuff you didn't want to do that you couldn't delegate.

Interesting. The AI totally fails the cognitive reflection test. It gives the intuitive but incorrect answer every time.

A notable departure from @Twitter: one of the oldest, most robust open government & civic technology websites in the USA has signed off. @govtrack remains on the open Web: govtrack.us/ & continues to be social on Mastodon, Instagram, Patreon, & Github.

Not like we wrote a paper about that or anything which we got fired for. What COULD go wrong?🤔 dl.acm.org/doi/abs/10.1145/3…

Hearing tonight's news out of Twitter reminds of a two-year study Google conducted. It found that high-performing teams have five specific traits:

Also at risk in any Twitterpocalypse, a critical piece of archival infrastructure: the Twitter link shortener. Every link anyone has ever posted on Twitter has been shortened to a t.co link. Only Twitter’s systems know where that link goes. Link rot at scale.

Story to be updated soon with more: Am hearing that several “critical” infra engineering teams at Twitter have completely resigned. “You cannot run Twitter without this team,” one current engineer tells me of one such group. Also, Twitter has shut off badge access to its offices.

12 years ago, Twitter’s office used a Mac Mini to tunnel into the servers. One day, an IT guy found it in the closet. “Anyone know who owns this?” “Unplug it. Someone will show up.” Everyone lost access to servers. Huge crisis. It became known as the “Load Bearing Mac Mini.”

This is what micromanaging from the top looks like, when the CEO *thinks* they can tell the source of the problem and how to fix it, just by looking at it. It’s incredibly frustrating when it happens to you. It’s rare to see it this public. Good luck to engineers in the weeds.

Btw, I’d like to apologize for Twitter being super slow in many countries. App is doing >1000 poorly batched RPCs just to render a home timeline!
