Italian graphic design in the ā50s and ā60s was on another level. A selection of Olivetti advertisements.
Highly relevant article. As the market has continued to decline, Iāve often thought about small or cheap editions, but the tiny income that I could generate isnāt worth the time and effort to market and promote it. Let alone the anxiety that goes along with no one purchasing it in the first place.

4 months ago I cloned Airtable for a client in 5 days because they refused to pay Airtable $500/mo
months later, Iām still maintaining it
every two weeks itās another edge case, a UI tweak, or a "quick 10-minute request." Theyāve easily spent 10x more in headaches than the $2,000 they wouldāve paid Airtable
just proving that SaaS isn't dead. Cloning isn't enough, if you want it to be same quality as original it becomes a full time job
and at this point isn't it easier to just pay?

Amen to every word of this. Especially the part about money not making something good art. I wish more people in this space understood the difference between collecting art and collecting status.
As someone who has stayed in their lane their entire art career aka created whatever the fuck I want , I often laugh at some the things that go on in this space.
The argument āart is subjectiveā is such a cope in this space to justify some of the bullshit that gets sold. Anyone can spend their money on anything they want, even ai slop but just because you pay for it and pay a good amount for it, it doesnāt make it good art.
Iāll even shoot a shot at myself, just because Iāve spent 5 + years on a piece now it doesnāt mean itās good. I donāt want the time spent on the piece to be the thing that makes people think itās amazing, I want people to take a deeper look at the intricacies, the colors and ideas that make the piece come together.
You know the saying money canāt un-lame you applies here to a certain degree. The truth is there is only a handful of collectors in this space who are actually patrons of the arts, who collect with good intentions & always look for the deeper meanings within the works. Most ācollectorsā in this space lack good taste & partly itās not their fault since most started collection in 21. But you can tell who has taken the time to learn and who just thinks they can get away by buying the next hype thing.
At the end of the day as an artist you can complain or you can remind yourself why you even make art in the first place. Yes i understand it is the dream of most of us to be able to make a living making art but that ultimately should be a by product. First & foremost should be creating because itās the thing that makes you happy, the thing that drives you to be a better human or simply because itās the thing that keeps you alive & sane.
You are the driver of your destiny.
Added @phileeppov's Apple Music glass shader in to my screen shot prettier app. Looks great on it's own and when combined with the scene lens shader.
