Hi, I run a freelance hair and make-up business for weddings and photo shoots. Mad about making weddings special, buying new make-up and trying new hair styles!

So @BorisJohnson, what's the plan? Because in the days after Christmas, hundreds of couples are hoping to get married, cake makers are making cakes, caterers are buying food, venues are calling in staff and florists are buying flowers. Do we all continue? #whataboutweddings

So many phone calls over the weekend, couples distraught that their wedding may not take place as planned, some on their 3rd date! How can this total discrimination against our industry continue? @BorisJohnson #whataboutweddings #mentalhealth

From our survey... “... a complete lack of respect”. There has been a total absence of respect for the jobs of 400,000 workers, the lives of hundreds of thousands of couples, the cultural/societal value of weddings and the mental health of all involved. #whataboutweddings

My husband isn’t allowed 30 (max)wedding guests to STAND UP - must remain seated. 😳🤦🏻‍♀️😡 Beyond a joke now, just bloody ridiculous. Stop ruining businesses that have good risk assessments & have been PROVEN to register negligible risk of transmission. ENOUGH. #whataboutweddings
Meanwhile, in Glasgow... Rangers fans celebrate winning the Scottish Premier League.
Please could any member of @UKweddingsOrg @WAWofficialUK or @scullyp explain this outright discrimination against my industry and clients #whataboutweddings

The ease with which 400,000 workers have been dismissed by this govt is beyond shocking. They've shown that they do not value all work equally and clearly see some sectors as more worthy than others. It's a shameful way to treat a world-leading industry. #whataboutweddings
50% of wedding suppliers have received NO financial support. We have been effectively closed for over a year. We have no hope of viable trade until the end of June. We have been told to 'get better jobs' and we have been laughed at by those in charge. We're still here.

I am beyond proud to have spoken alongside friend and colleague @KirstyMcCall on @BBCWomansHour this morning. Her bravery and honesty knows no bounds. I was wiping away the tears before I spoke. Our industry is the best. We deserve so much more. #whataboutweddings

HM @GOVUK don't seem to want to help weddings, HM Loyal opposition @UKLabour don't seem to want to help weddings, @WAWofficialUK and the entire £16B industry want to help weddings, one must ask why? #whataboutweddings 1/2

Checkout lady asked if I had any plans for Easter. Tell her I should have been getting married tomorrow. Tells me she got engaged at Christmas but no plans yet because of all the uncertainty. How long are you going to let this go on for? @BorisJohnson @scullyp #whataboutweddings

Replying to @10DowningStreet
@10DowningStreet Registration Offices & couples have booked thousands of weddings between 12th April and 17th May based on your roadmap - you must allow them to proceed by adding venues to the list of premises able to open from 12th April! @WAWofficialUK @scullyp @neil_parish

There is really one date I am most concerned about: 21st June. Yes, clarity and parity is required ahead of then. Yes, we need financial support until then. But if we don’t have normal weddings by 21st June you will see a dramatic collapse of the entire wedding industry. – at Cheltenham, England

A sincere thank you to @scullyp for taking the time to meet with me today, alongside other MPs and with special thanks to @Siobhan_Baillie and @neil_parish for organising. A productive and constructive conversation, which I look forward to continuing. #whataboutweddings

3 weeksago @BorisJohnson announced a roadmap which barely included Weddings. Its also 3 weeks since I emailed @GarethDavies_MP my local MP, very disappointing that he has refused to answer any questions on Wedding industry. @GranthamJournal interested in a story? @WAWofficialUK

14 more weeks of no support or work for an entire industry of 400k employees. Businesses are closing daily. Talent lost. It’s the experienced ones with higher overheads who generate higher tax contributions due to experience + pricing that are struggling most. So shortsighted. – at Cheltenham, England

A totally inadequate response. 1000 people can gather indoors - at SDC - in the same venue one day as will be limited to a wedding for 30 guests the next. And funerals too. Presumably @GOVUK think families can’t be trusted to take care of one another so the state must intervene
In May, why is the limit on weddings 30 people, when sporting events can have up to 10,000 people, can we not increase this? @BorisJohnson answers ⬇️ Ask your question at: gov.uk/ask

We are bombarded by couples wanting to go ahead even under these ridiculous restrictions on numbers (not scientifically proven btw?) but we cannot tell them what they are ‘allowed’ to do! I’m beginning to feel like we are now living in a totalitarian state #whataboutweddings
Two and a half weeks since the roadmap announcement. Two and a half weeks with couples and businesses trying to plan without any guidance or detail. Two and a half weeks of silence from those supposedly looking after us. Two and a half weeks. Just. Not. Good. Enough.

Nearly 400 comments so far on what COUPLES want the government to do with weddings. Worth MPs and ministers taking a look. #whataboutweddings 👉 instagram.com/p/CMPPf6Nh9Y9/… – at Cheltenham, England

Another thank you, this time to Karen Bradley MP, for highlighting the plight of the wedding sector in Parliament yesterday. "The wedding sector has also been particularly hard hit... I ask the Government to bring forward support for that sector." #whataboutweddings

THIS 👇🏻👇🏻 @BorisJohnson @scullyp Its been 15 days & you have dropped the ball on so many levels from inability to amend a roadmap, to providing zero guidance for wedding industry or couples about how things will work when they do open to ZERO #Budget support #whataboutweddings
We continue to back businesses of all sizes through the pandemic and I’m delighted to see the cap on Covid-19 support grants raised to £10.9m. Extending our support will help retail and hospitality chains and the thousands of staff they employ.
