GPT-6-Astra is performing worse than 5.6 Sol for sw engineering. I would expect from AGI to actually make well-engineered solutions, but it just makes overengineered unreadable mess. Until it can't think outside the box, we are not AGI yet.

He is obsessed with China and OpenAI. I hear nowhere that they will open dialog with other AI labs. For me that sounds a lot of like excuse to keep training larger models. If you really cared about safety you would put down your ego and start talking with your "enemies".
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training. You can read the full post here: darioamodei.com/post/we-must…

Pretty shitty tbh
drama summary for those confused: - Aug 15th: Tristan Buckmaster & Levent Alpöge make progress on a few important math problems - they do NOT have a proof for the $1,000,000 Millenium Prize problem. BUT, they do claim to have a proof for a similar (non-Millenium) Navier Stokes problem that could help lead the way there - Levent works at Anthropic, but this research was independent of his work there, with a mix of GPT and Claude models. Tristan is not related to Anthropic. - Early Sep: Rumor spreads to OpenAI that Anthropic has solved a major problem. Tristan emails OpenAI to clarify. without revealing the problem they solved or how they did it. - After hearing of the rumor, OpenAI started researching Navier Stokes with a new internal model. - Sep 6th: OpenAI's Sebastien Bubeck tells Tristan that they solved the $1,000,000 Millenium Prize Navier Stokes problem. The approach is very similar to Tristan & Levent's approach to the non-Millenium problem. - Tristan is suspicious of the timing, as only few others were trying this approach. OpenAI says the model didn't access his user data directly, but leaves unanswered whether Tristan's chat conversations were part of the training. - OpenAI says they would partially credit Tristan for the $1,000,000 discovery (even though Tristan did not solve the $1,000,000 problem) — but only if they remove Levent as an author, as he works for Anthropic. - Sep 8th: Tristan refuses to remove Levent, and rushes to publish their results independently. Currently unclear is whether Anthropic had a separate solution for the $1,000,000 problem, or whether the rumor was about Tristan & Levent's independent research.

My finest achievement. This is Windows Terminal using ghostty as an engine rendering a RDP client window using kitty protocol of chromium running in an agent sandbox in a container in wsl2. Thank you. I'll be here all week.

Disagree. He's failing to account for the far lower electricity costs in China due to China's vastly better power grid. He's also assuming Huawei just sits around and does nothing with its own microchip architecture.

The excitement around Kimi K3 seems to support my "intelligence saturation" hypothesis. TLDR - most people only need so much intelligence (capability, context, benchmarks, tool use, reasoning, etc) from models. Beyond that extra capability is wasted on them. At that point, intelligence becomes a commodity. Sort of like how all CPUs are 64 bit today, and no one really thinks about it. At least on the consumer side. In tech infrastructure, we break this down into two dimensions: lateral scaling and vertical scaling. Lateral scaling is adding more parallel processing or nodes that are cheap. Vertical scaling is making one thing bigger and more impressive. At this point, we're nearing the point where open source models satisfy like 90% or more of all demand. Then it's just a matter of "who's GPU is it running on?" and that becomes the key market niche. By the end of the year, and certainly within 12 calendar months, you'll have a library of open weight models to pick from that run at thousands of tokens per second, which will do the vast majority of the work you want.

This is pretty concerning. You could still do this at the API level to some degree, but they seemingly just blatantly put it right into the code? This is why open harnesses and agents are a much better option, among countless other reasons. You can inspect the code, observe the traces, and disable or modify anything you want for your own uses. If you haven't yet - Hermes Agent is a world class coding agent. I'd recommend giving it a try.
‼️ BREAKING: Anthropic has embedded hidden spyware-like code in Claude Code that covertly targets Chinese users. It then sends information regarding every user by injecting it into their prompt message. Claude Code is sending info like timezone, proxy and possible AI Lab connections into the system prompt in ways Chinese users can't notice. A coding agent with repo and command permissions should not silently hide routing metadata inside prompts. This is a serious breach of user trust.
