I enjoyed the Ballon d’Or night, but I have to be honest, I strongly disagree with two of the awards, especially the goalkeeper category. How does being part of a successful team automatically translate into winning an individual award? David Raya was outstanding all season, won back-to-back Premier League Golden Glove awards and reached the Champions League final with Arsenal. Yet, Unai Simón got the recognition, and I genuinely struggle to see the argument for it. I barely saw any compelling highlights to justify his claim over Raya. Maybe they know what they’re doing, but it’s hard to ignore the preference for Spanish-based players, particularly goalkeepers playing in their league. Interestingly, Raya recently spoke about the possibility of returning to Spain. You just know that playing there would improve his chances of winning individual awards and securing the starting spot for Spain. And make no mistake, Raya is good enough to compete for both. For me, Luis Enrique deserved the coaching award for his remarkable work with PSG, while David Raya deserved the goalkeeper award. Individual recognition should be about individual excellence, not simply the success of the team you belong to. That said, shout-out to my idol, Titi Henry, and Kate Abdo, for giving us an amazing show and a memorable night. ❤️🏆 Now, let’s talk. Am I being biased as an Arsenal fan, or does anyone else feel the same way?
