Listen to an exclusive call with our newest peace laureate Navi Pillay.
Pillay couldn't believe that she had been awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Kristian Berg Harpviken, Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, was happy to confirm that the news was true.
In my op-ed I talk about the juxtaposition of Namibia’s ‘Born-Free Feminist Paradox’; and how our rightful fight for gender equality becomes a performative facade against state-sanctioned homophobia.

Affirmative Repositioning leader Prof. Job Amupanda has questioned Namibia’s position on supporting a female candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General.
Prof. Amupanda raised the issue with Minister in the Presidency Dr Charles Mubita, in the National Assembly, following President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s call for a woman to be elected as the next UN Secretary-General during her address to the 81st UN General Assembly.
He questioned whether prioritising a female candidate could affect Namibia’s foreign policy, arguing that the choice of a UN Secretary-General should also take into account a candidate’s ability to deliver on Africa’s priorities.
Dr Mubita explained that Namibia’s position is informed by gender equality policies of the United Nations, the African Union and SADC.
He stressed that capacity takes first priority when Namibia considers candidates for leadership positions in international organisations.
Where candidates are considered to have equal capacity, Dr Mubita indicated that Namibia would campaign for a female candidate, citing the historical under-representation of women in leadership.

We need to move beyond the non profit industrial complex 🥲
Theres just too much comfort, to much yelling, not enough organising.
Justice isn’t going to be a conference, a panel or a project cycle. We must invest more in building people and building real power...

A National Prayer Day has no place in a secular state. Besides, it achieves nothing. They also pray who rob us blind. Namibia’s societal problems can only be solved if people simply learn to behave and give unto others the rights we fought for.

To date. This is the only political candidate- and to that extent politician- in SA that has condemned the upcoming anti-LGBTQI+ conference in Cape Town.
My oh my, to have a mayor like @drtlaleng who is not afraid to protect & defend the most vulnerable amongst us. Dreamy🥹!
South Africa Must Reject Hate Conference Disguised as "Family Values".
South Africa’s Constitution protects equality, dignity and freedom from discrimination, including on the basis of sexual orientation. Our democracy was built on inclusion — not exclusion.
We respect freedom of religion, belief, expression and peaceful assembly. But these freedoms must not be used to justify discrimination, dehumanisation or attempts to strip others of their constitutional rights.
The proposed conference forms part of a broader anti-rights movement seeking to roll back LGBTQ+ equality, restrict women’s rights, undermine comprehensive sexuality education and promote exclusionary laws across Africa.
South Africa must not become a platform for intolerance or discrimination.
