This is so dumb, @Apple. Can't use Siri AI on a Mac because I don't want to set my computer *region* to the US? I'm not in the US!

Whelp, glad I noticed this before Amazon made my Kindle less useful. I guess that's the last Kindle I buy. reddit.com/r/kindle/comments…

The new iPad Mini is still on a 60Hz display and has zero battery life improvements over an iPad Mini 6 from 2021. You might think they're intentionally stifling it to promote the iPhone Duo. Sigh.

What in the black mirror has Jack Dorsey done?
We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

This consumed me for 10 years. Online abuse is not okay. It has made me doubt myself and my abilities for long enough, it was time I spoke out and let it go! #triathlon #ironmantri #worldtriathlon #ironmanworldchampionship #cozumel

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

‼️ PHP UPDATE: The Dutch parliament, the Dutch national cyber agency and Finland's central government have pulled websites offline ahead of the PHP patch. Finland's state IT centre Valtori is shutting down public-facing central government web services. The National Land Survey of Finland is already down. In the Netherlands, the Tweede Kamer, the NCSC and the Dutch Data Protection Authority are offline. So are tech site Tweakers and NotuBiz, which runs council information for 100+ local governments. The University of Vienna switched off its websites, webmail and Moodle. The University of Freiburg and Finland's Haaga-Helia have taken services down too. Fur Affinity, Pinboard, explain xkcd and every wiki on Miraheze are dark as well. Valtori says its shutdown is a precaution, not the result of an attack or breach. PHP was created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994, it initially stood for Personal Home Page PHP's fix is due at 14:00 UTC today.

Hi, it's Darshita. I am a designer. And I'm pitching myself in public 'cause I'm done with a year full of anxiety. Everyone says design is dead and AI killed it. But the real parasite was hiding in plain sight. So here's my film, DESIGN IS DEAD. She's bold, fearless and very PINK 💖 Hiring? My DMs are open.

"Almost exactly a month ago, Foursquare was acquired, marking the end of a 17-year story that started around my kitchen table in the East Village in 2009. The Foursquare acquisition was a $0 outcome for equity holders – $0 for preferred, $0 for common. It’s bittersweet to see these details surface publicly – at least now there’s an opportunity to comment on them." Man. teendrama.substack.com/p/som…

This was one of my favorite perks of living in Düsseldorf. 20 minutes from my door to the airport. Still pretty good in Utrecht, ~30 minutes to AMS.
Having a train that takes you directly to the airport is genuinely one of the top 10 things a city can offer. No expensive taxis, no sitting in traffic, no begging someone to drop you off. Just get on the train and arrive at the airport. Every major city should have this.

The comments are wild. How can any grown-ass adult put all of their money into a single bank? Doesn't matter how much or how little, spread it out! Plenty of free options.
We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. We can confirm that all our customers’ money and data are safe. We’ve been working to fix the issue since it was identified this morning and apologise to anyone affected and for any inconvenience caused.

And yes, Revolut is at fault here for not having multiple systems in place (too reliant on Google Cloud). That's the issue with building your entire business on the back of one vendor. It's the same basic premise: putting all your eggs in one basket is a bad idea. We never learn.

Honestly impressed at the tone-deafness of journaling apps adding AI agents. Yeah totally, please share my most private thoughts with a “coach” bot. 👏

EU has saved me from - a €40,000 hospital bill for a broken arm - surprise roaming charges the second I cross a border - a different charger in every drawer - an app store that takes 30% and won’t let me leave - data brokers selling my location because I once clicked “accept” - subscriptions that take three lawyers and a blood sample to cancel - airlines treating my bag as a separate personality with its own fare
EU has deprived me of - iPhone mirror on macOS - dots by OpenAI - live AirPods translation - Xmoney - more data centers
