Outlier of the Day (2026-10-27):
Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, The Accountant Who Built the World's Largest Charity
Field: Accounting / Social Entrepreneurship
In January 1972, a Shell finance executive sold his small London flat for £6,800 and flew home to a country that had just been born out of war. He had no aid experience. He had a ledger mindset and a conviction he could not shake. Fifty years later, the organisation he started is considered the largest non-profit on Earth.
Fazle Hasan Abed was born on 27 April 1936 in Baniachang village in Habiganj district. He left for the University of Glasgow at 18, then studied accountancy in London, qualifying as a Cost Management Accountant in 1962. He worked as a budget accountant at Bramber Engineering, then a management accountant at Aircraft Marine Products, before becoming Treasurer and Head of Finance at Pakistan Shell from 1968 to 1971.
His turning point arrived with the storm of 12 November 1970. He and friends created HELP to bring relief to Manpura island, which had lost three-quarters of its population. The devastation, he later said, made his oil company career feel "inconsequential and meaningless." When the Liberation War broke out, he resigned from Shell and moved to London to campaign for Bangladesh's independence.
BRAC was established in February 1972 to resettle returning refugees. Then the accountant thought in systems.
Diarrhoea was killing children, so Abed perfected an oral rehydration formula through trial and error in his kitchen, taught as "one pinch and one fist". BRAC reached 12 million mothers almost entirely through person-to-person education. In 2001 he founded both BRAC University and BRAC Bank.
The honours followed: the WISE Prize in 2011 and a knighthood from the British Crown, and the World Food Prize in 2015. He passed away on 20 December 2019.
Dos: Obsess over execution. He argued that progress stalls less from a shortage of ideas than from failure to implement them well and at scale. Build successors before you need them.
Don'ts: Don't confuse a pilot with a solution. Don't wait for permission to begin.
Competitive edge: A corporate finance brain applied to poverty. He credited Shell with teaching him to run large operations effectively and efficiently.
Perspective: His motto said it all: "Small is beautiful but big is necessary."

This is one of the reasons Lagos State is ahead of other states in this country. People have been talking about fake products and how they are causing damage and killing people. How many states have responded to this public outcry like this?

On 17th October 2026, Joy and Ada were involved in a ghastly motorcycle accident at Ago Iwoye, Ogun State after a reckless driver named IDRIS OLAITAN hit them from behind. Since that terrible day, both of them have been battling severe injuries, unimaginable pain, and a difficult journey toward recovery.
Joy and Ada are both students of Olabisi Onabanjo University and it happened around the school area.
Joy is still currently in the hospital receiving treatment and her family has already raised almost 3 million naira , which was used for her initial emergency treatment and the first surgery she had to undergo after the accident.
Unfortunately, because of the severity of the accident and the sensitive areas of her body that were affected, Joy’s treatment does not end with the first surgery and has been informed that she needs two additional surgeries to properly correct and treat injuries to her hip and ankle and and she will also require plastic surgery,post-surgery care, medication, hospital bills, and other necessary medical attention throughout her recovery.
The additional surgeries and post-surgery care are expected to cost approximately ₦4 million more.
Her family already raised and spent almost 3 million for her initial treatment, we are once again asking for your help because she still has a long and expensive road to recovery ahead of her.
Ada’s case became extremely critical following the accident. Due to the severity of her injuries, she had to be transferred to another hospital for urgent treatment after she was rejected at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi.
She is in urgent need of surgery, and the estimated cost of her treatment is approximately 6 million
Her family is doing everything possible, but this amount is far beyond what they can comfortably afford, which is why we are reaching out to everyone who can help.
The families have already done everything they can, but they cannot carry this financial burden alone.
Ada needs approximately ₦6 million for her urgent surgery and treatment.
Joy needs approximately ₦4 million for her additional surgeries and post-surgery care.
No amount is too small. Whether you can donate ₦1,000, ₦5,000, ₦10,000, ₦50,000, or more, your contribution can make a real difference in their lives.
please share this post with your friends, family, colleagues, churches, communities, and anyone who may be able to help.
They have already endured so much pain. Please, let’s not allow lack of funds to stand between Joy and Ada and the medical treatment they desperately need.
Kindly support Joy and Ada. Donate, share, and help us reach the goal.

Outlier of the Day (2026-10-26):
Jim Simons, The Codebreaker Who Solved Wall Street
Field: Mathematics / Quantitative Finance
In 1968, a brilliant government codebreaker publicly opposed the Vietnam War, and his employer fired him for it. Most careers would have stalled there. Jim Simons's was just getting started.
Born in Newton, Massachusetts, on April 25, 1938, Simons later said mathematics was the only subject he liked. He earned his bachelor's from MIT and finished his PhD at UC Berkeley at just 23. In the 1960s he taught at MIT and Harvard and cracked codes at the Institute for Defense Analyses. When IDA dismissed him over his antiwar stance, he became chair of the mathematics department at Stony Brook University.
There he did work that would outlive him. With Shiing-Shen Chern, he developed the Chern-Simons invariants in 1974, a geometric tool that physicists now use in quantum field theory and string theory. He won the American Mathematical Society's Veblen Prize in Geometry.
Then came the turning point. Around age 40, with almost no business experience, Simons began to wonder whether the pattern-finding skills he had used to break codes could decode financial markets. In 1978 he founded Monemetrics, renamed Renaissance Technologies in 1982. Instead of hiring Wall Street veterans, he recruited mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists, and gambled that computer models could outthink human instinct.
They did. The Medallion Fund, launched in 1988, averaged roughly 66% a year before fees from 1988 to 2018, and gained about 82% in 2008 while the S&P 500 lost 38%. It became so profitable that Simons closed it to outside investors.
Simons gave much of his fortune away. The Simons Foundation, which he and his wife Marilyn started in 1994, became a major funder of basic science and autism research. Math for America, which he founded in 2004, works to bring more excellent math teachers into public schools. In 2023 the foundation gave Stony Brook $500 million, the largest unrestricted gift ever made to an American university. Simons died on May 10, 2024, at 86.
Dos: Do something original. Collaborate with the smartest people you can find. Let the data decide.
Don'ts: Don't give up easily. Don't assume your expertise has only one use.
Competitive edge: He brought scientific method into a world run on gut feeling.
Perspective: Mathematics was not a career he left behind. It was a lens he carried into every room he entered.

26-year-old Obanyeli Jesse Chima was an international student from Nigeria who had just finished his master's degree in Public Health in London.
He was waiting in a lounge to meet friends for a joint birthday celebration when he said he needed to step outside for some air. His breathing quickly deteriorated.
Despite using three different inhalers he had with him, nothing helped. His friend called an ambulance, but while she was still on the phone with the operator, he collapsed.
His friends started CPR right there on the street, guided by the emergency operator.
Paramedics spent about two hours working to stabilise him before rushing him to hospital.
He was placed on life support. At first, medics hoped he would only suffer memory loss.
But two days later, doctors confirmed there had been no improvement and tests showed he was brain-dead.
Jesse was just 26. He leaves behind three siblings in Nigeria.
He was known as a passionate Chelsea FC fan who had even worked at the club.
His friend Eva said his family had been saving money to fly over for his graduation.
"His family had saved money for his graduation, and now that money needs to be used to bury their child," she said.
Friends are now raising money to transport his body back to Nigeria so his family can lay him to rest.

Blame this on some of their religious and political leaders who allowed these extreme views.
Those who recruit them grab them from childhood and introduce them to just one way of life - to cause harm to others for no just cause.
According to a translator, this person is saying:
He should be given AK47
He would then go to Enugu
The land of the infidels
On Sunday when they are worshiping and clapping
He would then open fire
Rudu dududup (sound of gun)
So that he can klll the infideels
He asked to be given AK47 again
So that he can go to Jos
And klll more infiddels
That is the training

Eliud Kipchoge, The Milk Seller Who Ran Past the Impossible
Field: Sports / Athletics
On 12 October 2019, on a looped course in Vienna, a Kenyan man crossed a finish line in 1:59:40. For the first time in history, a human had run a marathon in under two hours. Twenty years earlier, he was selling milk to help feed his family.
Eliud Kipchoge was born on 5 November 1984 in Kapsisiywa, Nandi County, the youngest of four children, raised by his mother, a kindergarten teacher, in the foothills of the Rift Valley. After school he sold milk at the market to support the family while he kept running. He wanted to run professionally partly to fund his education, and there was no money at home.
His turning point lived about a kilometre away. Patrick Sang, the 1992 Olympic steeplechase silver medalist, was his neighbour and had once been his mother's kindergarten pupil. In 2001, at 16, Kipchoge asked him for a training plan, and Sang wrote one on his arm. Then the teenager kept coming back for more. Sang gave him his first watch and has coached him ever since. Kipchoge has said his life would be different without him.
Malaria wiped out much of his 2002 season. A year later, at 18, he won the 5000m world title in Paris, beating Hicham El Guerrouj and Kenenisa Bekele. Olympic 5000m bronze (2004) and silver (2008) followed before he moved to the roads. There he became the greatest marathoner of his era: Olympic gold in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, world records of 2:01:39 in Berlin in 2018 and 2:01:09 in 2022, and his history-making sub-two-hour run in Vienna.
Dos: Find a mentor and keep asking "what's next?" Show up for every session; he still trains in Sang's group camp at Kaptagat. Pursue the target nobody believes is possible.
Don'ts: Don't let poverty or setbacks write your ending. Don't confuse a bad season with a finished career.
Competitive edge: Relentless consistency, and the humility to keep training among teammates despite all his fame.
Perspective: Running is bigger than records. In his words, his dream is to "make this world a running world."

These are the issues, a government is claiming to be rolling out austerity measures but their lifestyle is screaming “money na water”
Look at what a youth leader is doing, distributing cars northwards of ONE BILLION NAIRA for elections and all.
Shameful.
Man lacks basic coaching skills, his lineups are as bad as his substitutes.
No team philosophy, no pattern, no urgency, no depth.
Just some trial and error, something he is also bad at.
First step is to sack Carrick, followed by massive clearance of the average players - unfortunately, we have lots of them.
