I built my girlfriend a personal site for her birthday
people love my own personal site so I decided to go with a similar style for hers, kept the storytelling + fun little animations
It's incredible how fast you can go from 1% to 99% when building software these days.
The 1% that's left is taste + care
Caring about that 1% makes it so it still takes roughly the same time as pre AI to ship "something"
note: this "something" should be
1) more (quantity)
2) more ambitious (scope)
3) more polished (quality)
not caring about that 1%, going all in on speed and letting the slop make it to prod will get you nowhere, maybe you'll get lucky in the short term but I'm sure that this is not the correct move
weird times
Time to think as big as you can & spend the time you're saving wisely:
- put it into polish
- consume the right things
- meet people
- go outside
- get fit

These days, you should be building lots of tools for yourself.
Build a tool to polish an animation, lots of knobs to fine tune.
A tool to visualise performance issues.
A tool to populate your UI with realistic data.
Leverage AI to build a tool that builds *the* tool.
yes + shoutout to Tandler, my humble apple reminder widget mog with agentic ticketing/todos to build this mystery coding app
had all of this italoslop yesterday, still managed to stay in my daily calorie range AND managed to hit my protein goal btw
