ALT Four variants depicting the same fictional information. Gray dashed arrows sit between each variant, pointing to the next. On the far right is a text paragraph, “The presidential approval rating held steady from 2015 to 2017 at around 42%. In 2017, the president introduced a popular initiative combating child hunger. This led to a quick increase in approval rating, doubling to around 80%. However, the positive sentiment did not last. Due to widespread corruption, the approval rating fell back to around 37% by 2018 and has continued to decline steadily to almost 0% following an impeachment.” The other three variants are line charts depicting this data, each with a different amount of text. The first variant has no text except axes labels, the second has a title, “President approval rating over 5 years (2015-2020)” and an annotation, “Maximum” accompanied by a blue dot. The third chart has additional annotations, highlighting the child hunger initiative and the corruption.

ALT Statement: We've been made aware that a local govt candidate is circulating election material claiming that the Commission has 'admitted it has no evidence that CO2 causes dangerous global warming and it relies entirely on 'the consensus of climate scientists'. This misrepresents our position. To be clear: We base our assessment of the causes and impacts of climate change on established peer-reviewed scientific literature, and the consensus of the world's scientific community. Scientific consensus rests on hypotheses and theories that are continually updated to reflect new evidence - with uncertainty being refined accordingly. On this basis, the consensus of climate scientists is that the earth is warming and humans are primarily responsible. We're satisfied that the evidence for this is clear and unequivocal. While we welcome informed debate about how best to address climate change, we don't - and won't - debate its existence.
