Satan's Satellites (1958). A young Leonard Nimoy is one of the Martian invaders trying to knock Earth from its orbit so Mars can take its place. If this looks like King of the Rocket Men then you're on to something. Satan's Satellites is an edited down movie version of the earlier Republic serial Zombies of the Stratosphere (1952). That 12 part serial reused the rocket suit from 1949's King of the Rocket Men. Zombies of the Stratosphere was meant to be the second outing for Republic hero Commando Cody, after Radar Men from the Moon (1952). For some reason Republic swapped out his character from this, instead putting him in 1953's Commando Cody: Sky Marshal of the Universe, which was intended for TV rather than cinema but not broadcast on NBC until 1955 for contractual reasons following its cinema release. Commando Cody does sound like Commander Corry, from ABC's Space Patrol, and he was intended as a rival to both Space Patrol and DuMont's Captain Video and His Video Rangers, although both these shows came to an end in 1955, a year before the DuMont network itself folded. I know, it's complicated. Just enjoy the jet packs!

Python’s “Marching Up and Down the Square” is pure genius. Michael Palin (83 today) hits notes that only dog whistles and Mariah Carey can match. The “extras” were real Colchester Garrison soldiers, who later said they were “fighting for their lives” not to break. 😂🤣

HOOK is considered one of his lesser works and some outright hate it but it has shot blocking and lighting that look incredible.
When Spielberg does a movie that no one likes, it still looks and feels like this. We are in a slump right now where "great" movies aren't so great. Makes you realise that back then, "not so great" was still pretty darn great!

The first time Christopher Reeve flew as SUPERMAN inside the Fortress of Solitude, audiences in 1978 burst into applause. A purely visceral reaction as disbelief vanished and cinema achieved something unforgettable. “You’ll believe a man can fly.” A pure movie magic moment.

CAPE FEAR (1991) features several dramatic animated matte paintings. Martin Scorsese wanted ominous, surreal, boiling skies to evoke a mood of heightened-reality.

Are the dragons in your fantasy novel written by a deranged horse girl, or are they just fighter planes that tell The Girl Reading This that she’s special? Choose wisely.
