It took 2 years of mobilization & protests in #Serbia to take down Vucic's rule - despite erosion of media freedom, fears of violence & pressure on civil society.
Yep, "A symbol for Europe"
Wonderful to see massive joy in streets of Belgrade last night.

After Navi Pillay's #Nobel, @EuroParl_EN awarding #Sakharov Prize to @IntlCrimCourt would be another call of support to international law & justice.
And a reminder that #EU should use its 'Blocking Statute;' to protect ICC from shameful US sanctions.

#BurkinaFaso Restores Death Penalty
Restoring capital punishment will not resolve Burkina Faso’s security crisis.
In a system already plagued by serious due process failures, the death penalty merely heightens the risk of irreversible injustice, @hrw

Contrast @EU_EEAS' apathy on #Sudan conflict & its cover-up of #UnitedArabEmirates' support to brutal RSF, with @EU_Commission's rush to back #Egypt & #Libya's abusive policies, and you have @vonderleyen's grand vision of a flawed geopolitical #Europe.

⚖️ I strongly condemn the new US sanctions against the International Criminal Court. Seeking to cripple the Court’s work denies victims a path to justice and puts those responsible for the gravest crimes beyond its reach.
At Belgium’s initiative, support for the ICC will be discussed with my EU foreign affairs colleagues on Monday and at the forthcoming European Council. We will press for concrete protection. The Court’s independence cannot depend on whom it investigates.
Europe must act. Belgium is calling for the activation of the EU Blocking Statute to protect the Court and those who support its work. We must also defend our right to uphold international law without foreign sanctions dictating our choices.

International justice must be defended. There cannot be lasting peace without accountability.
The EU deeply regrets the decision of the United States to impose institutional sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC).
We will carefully analyse the situation and take the appropriate steps to protect the Court.
The US decision to delay the entry into force of its latest measures is an opportunity for dialogue.
The EU will continue to support the ICC and the Rome Statute system through political, diplomatic, financial and practical means.

Such a great prize. Very moving to me as Navi Pillay was UN High Commissioner for Human Rights throughout my time in Geneva
A strong statement that international human rights & humanitarian law are key to protect civilians from atrocities at a moment those norms are under threat
