I manage 4 employees who work at least fifty percent from home. I rarely have to even check in on them. How do I know they are working?
BECAUSE THE WORK GETS DONE.
Micromanaging is a disease of the ego.
Billionaire John Morgan reveals 23 employees quit the first week he put cameras on work from home computers…
“We're going to put a camera on your computer… We're going to put a camera up your a**… The first week, 23 people quit. It's not that they don't want to work from home. They don't want to f***ing work.”

Quality first.
People should have a life outside of work. Place to enjoy life, develop their tastes, gather inspiration. When you feel better, your work is better. It naturally bleeds into what you make.

Forcing people back to the office backfires.
Data on >3M tech & finance workers: After return-to-office mandates, firms lose stars and struggle to attract new talent. The most likely to quit are senior, skilled, & female employees.
Flexibility is a feature of a great workplace.
Holy shit this works. I came across this a while back and bookmarked for the next time one of my kids had hiccups.....just got 9 year old daughter to do this and they went away instantly 🤯

Those who've mandated a full RTO can do a check on employee flake rate and sick days taken since.

Working from home is an election issue.
But it's so much more important than that.
We need to resist the diktats to return to the office.
Instead, we should gather real evidence to inform policy.

Just 3% of tech firms are asking their employees to work in the office full-time.
This is a significant drop from 8% last year and comes after companies experienced more resistance than they had anticipated,

Remote and hybrid will be an important part of the future world of work.

And here I thought we could retire the arguments made in REMOTE: Office Not Required over a decade ago. That we were just on to discussing tactics on how to do it best. But no. The argument now needs to be made again, and from first principles. basecamp.com/books/remote

Dear managers: Raising productivity is not about monitoring people. It's about motivating them.
94 studies: Surveillance fails to improve performance—and increases stress, distrust, and dissatisfaction.
Tracking people is not a substitute for respecting and valuing them.

I know so many people whose companies are forcing them back into the office. Most of them have quit or plan on it as soon as they line up something else remote. The job has been accomplished as well or better from home for three years. Taking that freedom away will not go well.
