A biologist looks deeper into biology and finds chemistry. A chemist looks deeper into chemistry and finds physics. A physicist looks deeper into physics and finds mathematics. A mathematician looks deeper into mathematics and finds logic. A logician looks deeper into logic and finds philosophy. A philosopher looks deeper into philosophy and starts questioning everything.

A message to all sane Republicans: He pardoned 1,600 violent criminals. You said nothing. He bulldozed the East Wing. You said nothing. He interfered with the release of the Epstein files. You said nothing. He took over the Kennedy Center and renamed it after himself. You said nothing. He accepted a $400 million airplane as a personal gift. You said nothing. He threatened Canada, Cuba, Denmark, Greenland, Venezuela, Colombia, and Brazil. You said nothing. He tariffed just about everyone but Russia, causing inflation and instability worldwide. You said nothing. He attacked a nation during mediated negotiations. You said nothing. His ill-conceived war killed 175 children on day one. You said nothing. He alienated and insulted our allies. You said nothing. His ICE Army terrorized and murdered U.S. citizens. You said nothing. He committed murder on the high seas. You said nothing. He co-opted the Justice Department and directed it to prosecute his political enemies. You said nothing. It's time to start talking!!! It's long overdue!!!!

Replying to @60Minutes
This story did a good job of showing the contradictions of Senator Tillis. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จHe talks tough, and sometimes acts forcibly and logically, but sadly, when it REALLY matters, he backs down. And as a good a communicator as he is, he fails to adequately explain why he backs down.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontariโ€™io, which, appropriately, means โ€œthe lake is beautiful, the lake is bigโ€. The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario โ€“ then, now and always.

Iโ€™m happy to share this because I donโ€™t care what side of the aisle you sit on, this is a fact. Speaker Mike Johnson this is for you. Concerning Social Security payments, my contributions were made for over 50 years on every salary I received. From my first part time job until I retired. I always had a job. The Social Security check is now (or soon will be) referred to as a "Federal Benefit Payment?" I'll be part of the one percent to forward this.I am forwarding it because it touches a nerve in me, and I hope it will in you. Please keep passing it on until everyone in our country has read it. The government is now referring to our Social Security checks as a "Federal Benefit Payment." This isn't a benefit. It is our money paid out of our earned income! Not only did we all contribute to Social Security but our employers did too. It totaled 15% of our income before taxes. Congress took our money and used it elsewhere. They forgot (oh yes, they knew) that it was OUR money they were taking. They didn't have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them. And they didn't pay interest on the debt they assumed. And recently they've told us that the money won't support us for very much longer. And now, to add insult to injury, they're calling it a "benefit", as if we never worked to earn every penny of it. Just because they borrowed the money doesn't mean that our investments were a charity! Let's take a stand. We have earned our right to Social Security and Medicare. Demand that our legislators bring some sense into our government. Find a way to keep Social Security and Medicare going for the sake of that 92% of our population who need it. Then call it what it is: Our Earned Retirement Income. 99% of people won't forward this to their timelinesโ€ฆ..will you? Please, for the sake of our country, repost this.

10 things most people don't know, that engineers think about constantly: 1. CORRELATION IS NOT CAUSATION Two things happening together does not mean one causes the other. Engineers test this. Most decisions aren't made by people who do. 2. SYSTEMS FAIL AT INTERFACES The individual components usually work fine. It's where they connect that disasters happen. 3. MORE SAFETY FEATURES CAN MAKE THINGS LESS SAFE Adding redundant systems increases complexity. Complexity increases the number of ways things can go wrong. This is called the safety paradox, and it's why nuclear plant design is not simply "add more backups." 4. THE ABSENCE OF EVIDENCE IS NOT EVIDENCE OF ABSENCE Something hasn't failed yet. That doesn't mean it's safe. It may mean you haven't run it long enough. 5. TOLERANCE STACKING Each component has a tolerance: ยฑ0.1mm. Put 20 components together, each at the worst end of their tolerance, and you have a 2mm error. Many products fail not because any part is bad, but because all the parts are slightly wrong in the same direction. 6. THE MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY Every engineering model is wrong. Some models are useful. The model that causes disasters is the one someone believed was exact. 7. FEEDBACK LOOPS CHANGE SYSTEMS Adding a monitoring system changes the behaviour of the system being monitored. Adding safety incentives changes what engineers report. Measuring performance changes what people optimise for. 8. ENTROPY IS ALWAYS WINNING Everything degrades over time. Maintenance is not optional, it's the only reason anything works. Every structure, machine, and system is a continuous battle against the second law of thermodynamics. 9. THE HUMAN IN THE LOOP IS BOTH THE STRONGEST AND WEAKEST COMPONENT Human adaptability is extraordinary, humans solve problems no designer anticipated. Human error is the root cause of most major failures. Designing for humans means accounting for both. 10. FIRST-PRINCIPLES THINKING IS RARE Most decisions are made by analogy: "we did it this way before." The engineers who change things ask: what does physics actually require here? The answer is almost always different from what tradition suggests.

I think about this all the time. The weakest people need a strongman. But the strongmen are always weak and broken themselves. They break things because they are broken. They are cruel because they are weak. We are living through an age of weak and broken men.
It's ironic that so many weak people are so powerfully attracted to leaders who hate weakness and abuse the weak.
