Understanding of crypto sector is really tough 😶 And it's even more difficult to explain the technological dominance of ICP, Internet Computer and its chain-key tech 🤔 So I'm 'zooming out' and simplifying both by visualization of my (high-level) blockchains perception 🤞🫡

This feels like flat-earther style arguing. Repeating the same lines doesn't make them true. Your dates are right, your story isn't. “two lines the same week” That's not a trick, it's how patents work. You file, then you publish. Applications are sealed by statute, not by @dfinity "CC BY, free for anyone to use" "patent and trademark rights are not licensed." the license never covered the method. That’s the clause’s whole job. "attribution only" Where? A code comment and a github ticket. In public: "first of its kind" "new kind of threshold protocol" "major innovation" zero DFINITY mentions, and the one docs page that named DFINITY deleted in oct 2025. "three years the public line was all anyone could see" By your own dates that ends nov 28, 2024. $NEAR ran the method 20 more months with the application public, then two more after the grant. "nobody could see it" expired in 2024, the code didn’t. “DFINITY waited” You can't enforce a patent before grant. That's not strategy, it's the law. And the part none of you ever mention: illia was all over @dfinity in 2018–2021. Praising the research, quote-tweeting the chain-key announcement asking how it works, asking for the paper on twitter, taking the questions to @dfinity reddit AMA, getting answers from dom personally the same day, saying he “study it over the weekend” Then NEAR hired a fired DFINITY engineers to lead the MPC build.🤣 So no, this wasn't "someone read a free paper." This was five years of watching @dfinity , hiring exDfinity , building @dfinity method, calling it first of its kind. You can keep repeating “CC BY.” the earth stays round. xitter.cf/ajki76/status/21152111… Check the full timeline. The evidence is public. xitter.cf/ajki76/status/21137019… Honestly, I genuinely wish $NEAR success. As a token settlement layer, it's solid tech, especially with sharding.( even if I have serious reservations about its governance) I hope both sides can find common ground and settle this without dragging each other through the courts or fueling more of this bullshit. Mistakes were made, shit happens. I'd rather see both projects move forward than waste time fighting over the past. xitter.cf/ajki76/status/21146899…
I disagree, IMO the best outcome is an agreement. The version I'd actually like to see is $NEAR Intents swapping its permissioned MPC for ICP chain-key signing. What $NEAR would get: ✅ $ICP Keys reshared by protocol, not ceremony. Node joins or leaves, the public key stays the same, nobody ever holds it. Shares re-randomized on a schedule, so a share stolen last week is worthless now. NEAR only reshares when an operator changes. Compromise 11 of 17 slowly and the key is yours. ✅ Native chain reads. $ICP nodes ingest Bitcoin as part of consensus; EVM & Solana via RPC canisters that need multiple providers to agree. NEAR chain can't see other chains, so MPC 17 operators watch Ethereum/Solana/Bitcoin and tell the contract what they saw. Risk: the group that reports "your deposit landed" is the same group that signs the withdrawal. Corrupt 11 of 17 once and you can invent a deposit and sign the payout in the same step. No second check anywhere. ✅ A backup subnet. Lose the signing subnet, the key survives. Lose NEAR operators, the key is gone with them. ✅ 34 independent node providers across countries, each admitted by decentralized governance vote, paid by the caller (~3¢ a signature). Not 17 operators vetted by the foundation, paid 73k NEAR a month in emissions, who vote on their own membership and software. ✅ No TEE in the trust chain. The key is split across 34 nodes and the math enforces the threshold, not a chip. No Intel, no attestation, no side-channel risks. ✅ Signing that finishes under asynchrony. No coordinator, no restart when the leader drops, no "reuse a triple and the key leaks and nobody can detect it" (a real risk, from NEAR own spec). ✅ Any canister is a first-class caller: one call, consensus-ordered, certified response any client verifies against the IC root key. No separate network, no indexer watching one contract, no yield/resume dance. ✅ ECDSA, Schnorr/BIP340 & Ed25519 on one key model, plus vetKeys. Unlimited keys per canister via derivation paths, computable offline. ✅ Four years in production, zero rewrites, ckBTC audited by Trail of Bits with no high/medium findings. NEAR current signing path is six weeks old, three rounds slower and its audit covered only the use of Cait-Sith, not the library. The biggest win for $NEAR holders, besides superior security: no more ~880k NEAR a year in emissions to fund MPC operators, and that number climbs once the roster fills to the 21 operators HSP-007 allows. With current Intents volume and NEAR at ~$5, switching to $ICP signing would cost about 2–3x less on realistic signature counts. Since $ICP cycles are pegged to XDR while NEAR pays operators in NEAR, every doubling of the price doubles what the current setup costs NEAR holders. What NEAR would keep: the Intents revenue. Solvers, routing, 35 chains, hyperliquid, the fee switch, that's the business. The signing layer was never where the money is. It’s just where the patent is.

There's a new swap provider in OISY. Your swaps can now get offers from LI.FI. LI.FI checks across networks and exchanges for a swap route. In OISY it can search routes across seven networks: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Robinhood Chain and Solana. OISY reads every LI.FI swap before you approve it, and only offers it if it pays you the token you asked for. Try it now on oisy.com

ICP Founder Says AI, Not Quantum Computing, Is Crypto’s Real Threat The founder of Internet Computer (@Dfinity) believes AI recently disproved the Exponential Time Hypothesis, long considered true. The core algorithms aren't in danger for now, but Dominic sees this as clear proof that AI could change the playing field for crypto. The criticism targets chains using "quantum-safe" signatures. Practical quantum computing is still years away, and their usage is expected to be very limited. The warning is that complex new algorithms could contain devastating bugs. In fact, AI has already identified vulnerabilities in HAWK, a quantum-safe algorithm that NIST withdrew. ICP will not participate in the "post-quantum mania".

AI just proved that the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH) is false. Cryptography relies on ETH, but luckily this particular discovery doesn't threaten core algorithms yet. However, ETH was thought true for almost 30 years, and is highly relevant in the field. This illustrates how AI is the true threat to crypto and security, because it can move the ground under our feet, and it's here today. Currently, many chains are promoting their migration to "quantum safe" signatures and other schemes. Meanwhile, cryptographically-relevant quantum computers won't be around for some years, and even when they are, they'll be specialized machines, requiring special environments, rather than easily accessible mass market devices, and it will be relatively easy for authorities and regulatory frameworks to control their use, at least initially. Renting them for the purposes of hacking won't be allowed, for obvious reasons (not that this is something we should rely upon, but it impacts any objective threat analysis). However, there are dangers with adopting these schemes. The less well-studied and more complex a cryptography algorithm, the greater the chance that a sudden shift in our understanding of theoretical computer science or mathematics, or sophisticated analysis by AI, will suddenly reveal a catastrophic bug. The first real-world harbinger of the dangers occurred when AI found issues with HAWK, a quantum-safe algorithm that was passing through NIST's standardization process at the time (it was withdrawn). Chain operators' desire to ride narratives and exploit the tendency of web3 investors tendency to seize onto this or that carefully promoted story, who for the most part do not use crypto technology beyond holding and trading tokens, and who lack understanding of the theoretical issues involved, is certainly exploitative for a simple reason — whereas historical technical safety manias used for commercial purposes, such as Y2K, only collected money, this one also risks user safety. Chains sell adoption of quantum safe signature schemes to token buyers and users that in reality reflect a kind of stupidity, and irresponsibility, rather than actions reflecting wise stewardship protecting people from an imminent quantum meltdown. Meanwhile, of course, while adding support for a new post quantum signature algorithms doesn't involve much engineering work, it allows them to post pictures of their logo next to photos of quantum computers, so they can sell the ignorant on how sci-fi and advanced they are, which makes it particularly attractive to them. Important note: you'll hear about some serious people performing post quantum encryption of messages. That's different. They're calculating the risk that adversaries, such as state adversaries, perform mass storage of encrypted messages containing secrets, so that they can extract the secrets from them 10 years from now, say, when they finally have cryptographically-relevant quantum computers. This is a different kind of risk they are addressing. The perverse tragedy of the quantum mania craze that's currently gripping crypto is that on the one hand it shows how so many chains are driven by a desire to sell tokens first, rather than pursue sound engineering practices, and on the other, their willingness to lie and risk user safety in the process. This, all while the real wolf is at the door as concerns our engineering — AI that's rapidly advancing, here today, accessible to many, and difficult to control. What I can promise, is that DFINITY will be focusing on mitigating this real risk, and no matter the post quantum mania, we won't be joining it, and will instead try to plot the most responsible course. sansser.com/articles/exponen…

The only project that currently has no competition is #InternetComputer, and no other blockchain is designed like it. Current blockchains have adopted Ethereum's framework of being token transaction ledgers with computational power for token interactions. $ICP, on the other hand, was designed from the ground up as a full-stack cloud hosting blockchain where everything runs on-chain, with computing and storage capabilities for AI, DeSci, SoFi, Gaming, etc. Let's compare it to NEAR Protocol, a comparison that can be extended to other blockchains. Starting with the cost of storing data on-chain. For $NEAR, storing 1GB would cost tens of thousands of dollars (100KB = 1 NEAR), and if the price doubles, so does the storage cost. Meanwhile on $ICP, storing 1GB has a fixed price of ~$5. #NEAR documentation states that its blockchain is not designed for data storage and recommends using off-chain solutions for this purpose Right from the start, the idea of running anything other than token transactions and smart contract logic on-chain has been shot down. (It applies to all other chains) Now let's talk about computational power, as the chain performance depends on required node hardware. $ICP nodes are running on standardized enterprise-level hardware in data centers, requiring 2x10Gb connections costing ~$30,000 and allowing $ICP canisters close to bare-metal raw computational power. The $NEAR nodes run on low-level hardware since token interactions for on-chain computations require minimal processing power. When it comes to sovereignty, $ICP node providers are required to own hardware, ensuring the network is completely independent from big tech. #NEAR docs, on the other hand, recommend big tech hosting for its best price/performance ratio. #NEAR's chain abstraction essentially copy $ICP chain-fusion tech that has been available since 2021. Interestingly, #NEAR's docs previously acknowledged it, but they appear to have recently removed this reference. In conclusion, deploying a dApp/service on $ICP requires no additional hosting or hardware, unlike #NEAR, which needs centralized hosting for components beyond tokens and interaction logic code. Thinking you're playing 5D chess doesn't mean you're not just playing checkers with extra steps. DYOR: internetcomputer.org/capabil…

This was the first time DFINITY attended an AI event, but it's just the start. Thank you to the organizers for a great time. I explained the way that the Internet Computer | ICP now provides the ultimate agentic infrastructure, and it was tremendously well received, with some stunning follow-ups (more details in time). At the end my keynote, I gave out an email where you can apply for cloud engine coupons — and we're already seeing a steady stream of applications from that audience. The Internet Computer remains the first network creating genuine impact in the mainstream world, and the potential is unlimited.

Firstly, there were two patents on the algorithm they took, one was issued *beginning* of this year. We want license fees at the least. Sorry to those that liked my previous post, I reworded this to be more precise. If they knew about the patent applications, then license fees could be recoverable from the beginning of their use of the proprietary tech (~2+ years) not from earlier this year. There are some things that point in that direction in my view, e.g. 1) GitHub posts like this, note what's in the quotes, which I read like pre-emptive non-infringement positioning github.com/near/mpc_old/pull… (the algo of course re-uses the invention with a minor tweak that make it less secure), and 2) they had hired a senior DFINITY engineering manager in April 2022, who I feel would have known full well about DFINITY efforts to patent major works. We need that Google doc referenced by that GitHub pull request; NEAR if you're reading this, deleting evidence won't be helpful, maybe you'd like to voluntarily share this. Secondly, it looks to us like their Confidential Key Derivation is basically derived from the vetKeys paper, and maybe they looked at our Rust implementation too. That wasn't patented, but completely wrong to go around passing off hard and substantial work by very serious cryptographers as your own, and also completely ridiculous. I'm sure Ilia is a more serious guy than that. We are not anti-NEAR, but this is obviously too much and has to be addressed. Note as well that passing off a competitor's academic work as your own to gain an advantage also transgresses various other laws around the world. But anyway, if this is what has happened, I'm sure Ilia, as a supporter of open source, will want proper credits and references to be added, and for their CKD article to explain where the math came from. We're busy but will be contacting them, first to try and resolve this amicably. Meanwhile, they also need to think hard about who they choose as friends. Some of the people that came after us for them are absolutely freaky and the worst web3 has to offer. Notably, we've heard no denial, nor apology.

Pakistan wants AI infrastructure it can control. Its Digital Authority is discussing a sovereign AI Factory with DFINITY, using ICP-based cloud infrastructure to build government software. Here's the bigger opportunity for $ICP. Governments increasingly want AI without surrendering control of their data and infrastructure to foreign cloud providers. But the real victory won't be another agreement. It'll be government applications running in production.
