Over the past year, I've connected with the candidates in Peel Region, Durham, Halton, Guelph, Kitchener, Niagara, Simcoe, Northumberland, Kingston, Belleville, Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa and Oxford County to adopt our MoreHomesFaster.ca reforms. Now it's up to you! 🧵👇

Third, Enable New Homes Without Parking: Repeal any bylaws MANDATING parking... but also make it practical for families to live car-free, by increasing bus service & converting some existing car lanes on key arterials into quick-rollout bus rapid transit lanes w signal priority.

Fourth, and this is KEY, SLAM THE BRAKES ON SPRAWL: reject all applications for development approval or servicing beyond pre-2022 settlement boundaries, and roll back post-2022 boundary expansions the Ontario government has already imposed. No loosening controls on the Greenbelt.

Remember! Polls close today at *8 pm*, an hour BEFORE most shops. Don't get confused. Go NOW & vote for pro-Greenbelt, pro-midrise, pro-4plex candidates who WONT impose parking. There are so many CLOSE races where you could be the deciding vote in your municipal election.

I just voted because it matters - NOT as a symbolic gesture. After 10+yrs making things worse, Toronto's FINALLY making pro-environment, pro-housing change. Beaches-East York must *elect* a Mayor & Councillor committed to continuing that brand new path. environmentaldefence.ca/2026…

Holt Renfrew on Bloor has this beautiful, and illegal, tiny elevator. Something housing advocates say we should be allowed to build.

The City of Pickering's Council has been making the housing shortage WORSE, scoring just 18/500 (yes, eighteen) on the MoreHomesFaster.ca scoresheet. Use your vote today to force a pro-housing, pro-environment u-turn. Here's how! 🧵👇act.environmentaldefence.ca/…

(3/5) Second, support candidates who want to roll back post-2022 boundary expansions in Pickering, & sharply increase the planned job and housing density of the vast area of development land approved BEFORE 2022.

(4/5) Third, use your #Pickering vote this evening to support candidates who'll fix NIMBY zoning & infill DCs so Pickering adds lots of new family-sized 4-plex or six-storey midrise flats to existing family neighbourhoods. (image by Lanefab)

Detached homes, not purpose-built rentals, are the most financialized asset in the country. Its increible how much of the political and finanical system depends on home values of this very particular asset never falling. Just look at all the policies we put in place - from banking to zoning to taxes - to ensure it doesn't. REITs and PBR don't have a similar backstop. Also ask yourself who REITs are buying purpose-built rental buildings from, something the G&M article glosses over. It isn't some benevolent owner. It's from someone who wanted to make a profit. All that's happening now is that the profit is being split from one or a few owners to many.
There's a strain of "Make Canada Great Again" on the left, who believe there was some golden age without housing speculation and we just need to return to it. It's ahistorical nonsense. 110 years ago, there were ads encouraging land speculation in my neighbourhood.

After decades of NIMBY & sprawl planning caused a housing shortage, Hamilton's finally improving, rejecting boundary expansion, & starting to legalize "neighbourhood" midrise & multiplex. Elect a mayor & council who'll KEEP GOING, not surrender to sprawl. act.environmentaldefence.ca/…

Bryn! This is beautiful!
Deep lots (like the 50x150 drawn here) are a challenge for urban scale single lot infill, but we need to look not just at the building - but also the urbanism that could be built out over time. These sketches show our “five/six” prototype (as detached, with side yard & without)

Agreed. Unfortunately, under s. 45 of the Ontario Municipal Elections Act, 1996, voting hours across all Ontario municipalities are legally established to run from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day (1/3)
I was clearly very excited to vote today because I went to my local voting station thinking it would be open by 8:30am...no such luck! Voting stations open at 10 am (which, IMHO, is ridiculously late and inconvenient for working adults!). However, I, of course, will be back!

(2/3) It does give "bosses " and those of us with white collar jobs a bit of an advantage over service-class workers and less senior people, when it comes to casting our ballots. Maybe a contributor to lower turnout among the latter grojpsmin Ontario?

Thank you for pledging to protect the Greenbelt for future generations. It is encouraging to see support outside our 62 municipalities and to know the rest of Ontario sees the value in a healthy countryside.
