Stay in coaching long enough and you realize X’s and O’s are the easy part. Communication, culture, adaptability, and seeing things as they are matter more than scheme ever will. Scheme doesn’t always win Friday. Sometimes the other stuff has to.

DO YOUR JOB
"You can have all the talent in the world but if you’re not going to listen and be in the right spot every time and be accountable to do your job properly then you’re not going to play." (Julio Jones)

Become dangerously educated.
- Harder to fool.
- Sharper in conversation.
- Better at reading a room.
- Able to pull from centuries of other men’s mistakes instead of repeating your own.
A well-informed mind is hard to manipulate,
hard to intimidate,
and almost impossible to contain.
Learn like it’s a weapon. Because it is.

Some of the most important adults in a teenager’s life are working for a stipend that barely covers the gas they burn getting to practice.
Think about that

Average players goof around until it's their turn at practice.
Better players watch whoever goes before them.
Good players notice what the player did right or wrong.
Great players LEARN when the coach corrects someone else... so they don't waste a rep making the same mistake.

If your going to chase a dream go all in. So many people never give themselves a fighting chance because they never fully commit. If you’re gonna go , go all the way… 💯

Luke Falk shared a Mike Leach story that stopped me cold:
Two kids. One rich. One poor.
Every training camp, Coach Leach told his team about these 2 kids.
The rich kid has two choices.
Get soft. Get entitled. Expect everything handed to him because he was handed more.
Or take the resources, the coaching, the opportunities, and compound them into something greater.
The poor kid has two choices too.
Say nobody gave him anything. Blame the world. Make his circumstances the reason he never became what he could have been.
Or outwork everyone in the room.
Luke said the locker room had both. Kids from wealth. Kids from nothing. Kids with every advantage. Kids who scraped for every inch.
Same choice for all of them.
Ownership or victimhood.
Fuel or excuse.
The rich kid can waste the head start or build on it.
The poor kid can drown in the deficit or weaponize it.
Greatness doesn't come from where you start.
It comes from which kid you choose to feed.

“A lot of times the guy that plays hard is better than the guy that has the most talent." - Kirby Smart
Talent tells people what you could be.
Your effort tells them what you are.
Because coaches don’t bet on ability, they bet on reliability.

Quarterbacks…
The most important job for the quarterback in the history of the forward pass is to throw a ball that is caught by a teammate…
not the perfect grip…
not the perfect index finger placement…
not the perfect “grounded feet”
not the perfect rotation of the ball…
not the perfect overhead delivery…
not the perfect follow thru …
not the perfect velocity…
not the perfect 1, 2, or 3 ball verbiage…
not the perfect cover read and explanation…
not the perfect shoes…
not the perfect wrist band…
not the perfect Nike attire…
not the perfect guru attributions…
No…
Because u see…
There isn’t a one style fits all…
Every body type is unique…
Every arm length and hand size is different…
Every humans brain and anatomy are unique…
So remember…
Do what it takes to throw a completion …
Philip Rivers, Pat Mahomes, Jared Goff, Matthew Stafford, Peyton Manning, Lamar Jackson are all uniquely different in some aspects…
But they all throw completions…
Last season ( 2025)… my quarterbacks at LaTech and I watched film of one of the most talked about quarterbacks in football…
He couldn’t throw a completion against a much inferior opponent…
The coaches who handled him ( private gurus and position coaches alike) should have all been fired…
It was disgusting what “Over Coaching” had done to a tremendous talent…
But in the history of football many more quarterbacks have been destroyed by horrible over coaching than by lack of talent or work ethic…
So be careful who and what u listen to…
And never forget…
Throw a completion to the human with the same colored jersey as u!!!
