AWAKE, CHANDIGARH! HOW LONG WILL RESIDENTS SUFFER IN SILENCE?
Chandigarh’s share-wise property sale ban is not merely a property dispute. It is a serious assault on the financial security, dignity and future of ordinary residents.
Senior citizens cannot freely monetise their lifelong savings. Retired people struggle with medical expenses, unpaid loans and family responsibilities while their most valuable asset remains effectively locked.
Estranged families remain trapped in jointly owned properties. Family disputes deepen, relationships deteriorate and elderly owners are denied peace during their remaining years.
Children cannot easily realise their inheritance. Families needing money for education, marriage, healthcare or relocation face enormous difficulties. Buyers are discouraged, genuine transactions suffer and property owners lose bargaining power.
Meanwhile, property prices on Chandigarh’s outskirts have reportedly multiplied. Why should neighbouring areas enjoy freedoms denied to Chandigarh residents? **Who benefits from this restriction?
Equally disturbing is the laziness, inaction and indifference of Chandigarh’s lethargic residents, timid business community, silent RWAs and complacent bureaucrats. Where are the journalists and newspapers that should be highlighting this continuing hardship?
AWAKE, CHANDIGARH! Stop hiding behind WhatsApp discussions and drawing-room complaints. Organise a peaceful Jantar Mantar-style mass movement.
We demand a lawful, workable solution restoring share-wise property sale rights, with appropriate planning safeguards. Not another round of excuses.

Since 9 February 2023, restrictions on share-wise sale of residential property have left countless Chandigarh families struggling to unlock liquidity from their own lawful assets.
In Chandigarh's Phase I and Phase II sectors, affected shareholders have endured prolonged financial uncertainty, delayed marriages, medical difficulties, mounting debts and disrupted retirement plans. Houses worth crores have become symbols of financial helplessness.
For many residents, this is not merely a property dispute. It is years of mental anguish and lost opportunities.
Chandigarh is a Union Territory, and the Union Home Ministry, Chandigarh Administration and elected representatives must answer serious questions about their handling of this prolonged controversy.
As the Municipal Corporation elections approach, residents deserve clear answers from the BJP and every other political party:
Will they support a legally sound mechanism for share-wise property sales? What concrete steps will they take, and by when?
The issue is not the preservation of Chandigarh's architectural character, which residents respect. It is whether that objective can be achieved without indefinitely restricting the financial rights of lawful property owners.
After nearly four years, promises are no substitute for action. Public office carries public accountability.
Let every candidate explain their position openly. Let affected families stand together in demanding fairness, transparency and a lasting resolution.
A city cannot prosper while its residents remain prisoners of their own assets.

Yesterday’s diya campaign was terribly rejected by the people of India. And rightly so!
People need answers on unemployment, job creation, paper leaks, education reforms, food adulteration, petrol adulteration, air pollution, corrupt judges, etc. Not be lighting diyas on a politician’s birthday like megalomaniacs! Not to forget, it was also an insult to Hinduism. No Hindu or any religious devotee of any faith for that matter should offer such sacred diyas and aartis to a human being, only to their god.
In the lust for eternal power, this government and its andhbhakts have attempted to immortalise a mere mortal. In other words, attempted to equate him to god.
