Talking with my sons in their 20s. I just found out they don’t know how to: - black lead a grate - put oxen into yoke and harness to a plough - lay a hedge - make a net “Nobody in our generation does that stuff” Y’all, this is wild. Just me?

It’s kind of funny to me when people ask how many books I’ve read (???) or read per day (????!). I know some people keep lists but like, it seems kind of a loser move to count every book as an equal check on some eternal Excel sheet of “achievement”?
People like to ask me how many books I, as an English professor, read every year and I’ve just started answering, “All of them.”

(‘When Great Writers Met’ 17: George Eliot’s Tinder date with H.D.) Damn. I thought you’d be a man... ‘Well, I thought you’d be a pencil...’ Hmmm....oh no, here comes Caryl Phillips. ‘Wha...she’s a bloke too?’

A Railway station without a ticket office is just a bus stop for trains. Unsafe and hard to navigate for so many already marginalised and vulnerable groups and individuals. Save our ticket offices! @ASLEFunion @RMTunion

Question for my Old English tweeps- where do we find ✨joy✨ in Old English poetry? I can think of plenty of sadness, and there’s the joys of being part of a hall community, but where else? 🤔 (I wonder if anyone has written on this?)
