Gov. Kathy Hochul, speaking exclusively to Newsday during a visit to the newsroom in Melville on Friday afternoon, said she asked President Donald Trump and federal officials to “suspend ICE operations for the time being” following the shooting in New York City Thursday.
She said hearing that shots were fired into a vehicle with a 5-year-old inside “violates all training, all precepts of normal law enforcement.”
She said the incident shows the federal officers were “not well trained.” She said she also spoke to the secretary of Homeland Security, and asked for state officials to receive bodycam footage to review.
Hochul, who is running for reelection, said criminals who committed violent crimes should not be on the street and local law enforcement will work with federal officials to apprehend someone when there’s a court order, warrant for an arrest or a crime has been committed.

Tonight, I spoke with President Trump and DHS Secretary Mullin about the shooting in Marble Hill.
