The elite won’t suffer but everyone else will- that’s 100% guaranteed. Worth a very short read.

If I could see into the future and knew my share portfolio was going to make exactly a 15% gain next year I still have absolutely no idea what my tax liability will be if I sold those shares. Under the new CGT my effective tax rate could be 50%. Could be 80%. There is no way of knowing. Everybody with a 15% return will have their own unique tax rate depending on the distribution of returns within their portfolio. This is a completely unworkable system.
Imagine the uproar if wage earners on exactly the same income were taxed differently depending on whether they got paid weekly or fortnightly. This is basically the economic equivalent.

One of the reasons that I don't accept the "nuking USAID killed millions of people" framing is because most of the people saying this never took the stance that the US was a tremendously good and heroic force for saving millions of people

If my neighbour increases the productivity of their vegetable garden and doubles their tomato crop, this does not subtract from the number of tomatoes I was able to produce in *my* vegetable garden. You are now more economically literate than all of leftist Twitter.

The world spent 30 years calling Japan 'behind.' Still uses cash. Still uses fax. Still has tiny shops run by one old couple. Then the world got 'ahead' — and ended up lonely, rushed, and scrolling at 2 AM. Now the same people are flying to Japan just to feel something they can't name. A meal made by hand. A street that's quiet. A stranger who's kind for no reason. Turns out Japan wasn't behind. It just refused to trade away the things that actually make a life.

Dear small percentage of Boomers who can actually be told things: Here are some facts, to help you understand what Millennials are trying to tell you. Here is what the middle-class experience is right now. Not for losers, but for your average hardworking, but unexceptional, dude born in 1992. - No company pensions. Ever. No job offers this. - Laid off every 2 to 3 years. - No vacations. Ever. If you are lucky, you have 10 to 15 days of annual "PTO" (paid time off). But this is not vacation. This is your sick days. You can take a break with whatever's left over. - If you are not lucky, you have "unlimited" PTO. Which sounds nice, but in practice it means you get sick days and nothing else. - They pay social security taxes, but they know they will never receive those benefits, because the system will crash first. - Not promoted. Ever. - No annual raises. Instead, these are effectively pay cuts, because they don't match inflation. - Because of this, can only get a raise by changing jobs. Some judicious prevarication about salary history is recommended. - Good chance you'll have to change careers at least once, possibly more, as industries get rugpulled by offshoring or work visas. - Total mortgage cost on a median house in 2026 is 104,600 minimum-age-hours. This is 50+ years of full-time work. - For comparison, a 1972 purchase would be 23,750 minimum-wage-hours, about 11 years of full time work. What this all adds up to is that Millennials can't buy homes until they are past their child-bearing years. And, no, scrimping and saving doesn't change that equation. This is with scrimping and saving. I am not a Millennial. I am GenX, the child of Boomers. I do not need to be told how much Boomers forwent luxuries to save, and how hard they worked. I know exactly how much they did of each. I was there. I saw. They worked hard at the beginning of their careers, and lived frugally for about 5 years to save up a down payment. After that, things gradually eased up, bit by bit. Until, by retirement, a lot of them had nice fat stock portfolios and multiple rental property investments, and Caribbean cruise holidays. And this seems, to them, like a fair and natural progression. But as America has been hollowed out and by a corrupt political machine, those doing the robbing have left the Boomers whole, and placed the burden of that corruption squarely on the backs of younger generations. For Millennials, there's no light at the end of that tunnel. Just another tunnel. And another after that. They have been standing between Boomers and the reality of the modern economy for 20 years. At some point, they are going to break.

Worked 46 years in a factory to pay my home off , no one gave me anything. I paid taxes worked hard and raised my children. Some people like me could not afford to contribute to a retirement account all I have is the SS I paid in and small pension from my employer. I make do with what I have but it’s not easy to come up with the property taxes every year to keep what I have.

Some bees are friendly. They will not participate when a swarm of bees stings you to death. They also won't save you, because their first loyalty is to bees. This post is not about bees.

BambuStudio has been violating PrusaSlicer AGPL license since their fork, with the same networking binary black box in question today. Why are they willing to burn the goodwill over it? There's something most have sensed but never seen it all in one place, the five-law framework China built between 2017 and 2023 ⤵️ So maybe their hand is forced as their "network" is too valuable already? Each law on its own, interesting, okay... Read them together, and add any Chinese company with big reach to the mix you get the complete picture. 1) National Intelligence Law (2017) All organizations and citizens must "support, assist, and cooperate" with intelligence work. The same law makes it illegal to disclose that cooperation happened. Cooperation is mandatory, and silence about it is mandatory too. 2) Cryptography Law (2020) Commercial encryption must be state-approved and state-reviewed. When authorities request it, companies must provide decryption keys or plaintext. The state on both sides of that equation is the same one. 3) Data Security Law (2021) Article 2 gives the state extraterritorial reach over data that touches Chinese national security or public interests. So EU/US data hosting does nothing to make it safe, because jurisdiction follows the company, not the server location. 4) Counter-Espionage Law revision (2023) The general definition of espionage was expanded to cover "documents, data, materials, or items related to national security and interests." Industrial data is one of the intended targets since the revision. 5) Network Product Security Vulnerability regulation (2021) Any company or researcher that discovers a software vulnerability must report it to MIIT within 48 hours. From there it flows to CNNVD (China National Vulnerability Database of Information Security), operated by the 13th Bureau of the Ministry of State Security. Microsoft's threat intelligence team documented Chinese state-hacker zero-day usage rising after this took effect. Shows the willingness to use the “tools” China built. Together they describe a system with no neutral exits. Cooperation is required, encryption is real but the spare keys live at the ministry, jurisdiction follows the company across borders, industrial data is in scope, and discovered vulnerabilities flow to an intelligence agency 😬 3D printing became strategic for China in 2020 and joined the “Made in China 2025” plan soon after. Why does 3D printing matter so much? 1/x
Bambu Lab 3D printers: never again. They're breaking the open source social contract (for the nth time...), and I'm past hoping they'll amend their ways. youtube.com/watch?v=eb48MdtN…

An extreme commitment to the truth makes relationships acutely dysfunctional but systems chronically functional (think Elon Musk). An extreme commitment to kindness makes relationships acutely functional but systems chronically dysfunctional (think Sweden, UK)

ASIO Amendment Bill No. 2 has officially passed Parliament — 106 Ayes to 8 Noes. This is no longer “temporary anti-terror legislation.” It is now permanent law giving ASIO police-state style powers over every day Australian citizens. What the bill actually does: Removes the sunset clause — these powers are now permanent Allows compulsory questioning of children as young as 14 Lets the Attorney-General personally issue questioning warrants — no court approval required Makes it a criminal offence to tell anyone (including your family) that you’ve been questioned Gives ASIO the power to reject your chosen lawyer and severely restricts what your lawyer can do or say during questioning Strips away your right to silence — you must answer their questions or face jail This is not about catching terrorists anymore. This is about giving an intelligence agency the power to secretly drag any Australian in for interrogation without suspecting you of any crime. 106 politicians just voted to hand ASIO these powers. Only 8 had the courage to vote No. Your right to remain silent? Your right to proper legal defense? Your right to know when the state is targeting you? Gone. Eroded. Normalised. This is how freedoms die — not with a bang, but with a quiet division in Parliament House. Share this widely. Australians need to know what just happened behind closed doors. #ASIOBill #PoliceStateAustralia #FreedomUnderAttack #australiawakeup

America and Japan went from bombing each other to forging a bond of mutual respect and appreciation. Meanwhile, America's long-time allies - Australia, Canada, Britain, etc - have basically all abandoned ship in favour of Islam and third worldism. It boggles the mind.
