The fact that all the top comments on this tweet are from right wing nutcases shows the company @TheEconomist is keeping these days.
If Brazil’s president believes that now is the time to double down on the policies that won him re-election, he will cause a fiscal crisis and a deep recession. His golden victory will turn to ashes economist.com/leaders/2026/1…

I really think everyone needs to pay attention to this cordinated campaign to delegimatize Muslim Americans - not just as citizens but as humans.
These increasingly hysterical attacks are a prelude to Republicans bringing us to a very, very dark place after the election.

Dear WASHINGTON D.C. RESIDENTS! VOTE YES to BAN FOIE GRAS.
Perverted "chefs" & "restaurants" are currently trying to organize against the ban cause they enjoy selling the enlarged livers of tormented ducks & geese.
So ducks & geese are counting on YOU to VOTE for their RIGHTS!
Anyone who says 'it is okay to kill animals at industrial scale' in 2026 is either a monster or a troll. Maybe both. Even people who kill animals at industrial scale don't praise it so anymore.
The elite are protecting their class interests - regulate one thing and then the next and next and so on. Why let a spot of torture marr a happy family?
Jose Andres says we can’t ban foie gras because we need to solve ICE, global hunger, and ‘so many other issues’ before we can worry about animals.
It reminds me of when I collected signatures in Chicago to preserve the city’s foie gras ban.
In wealthy parts of town, high-minded liberals would chide me: 'You’re collecting signatures for ducks? People are getting shot in this city. You should be ashamed.’
When I went to the poor parts of town — the places where people were actually getting shot — no one said that.
Instead, when I explained how foie gras was made, the near-uniform reaction was: ‘They do that to a bird just so some rich asshole can eat foie gras? That’s f’d up.’ Almost everyone signed.
For political elites, banning animal cruelty is a distraction from the Big Serious issues they’re focused on.
For most people, it’s just common sense.
Computing is most certainly a phase transition in the history of language, likely of as much importance as writing, and more than anything else, we need a phase transition in philosophy that goes hand in hand with this new technology. Socrates was famously skeptical of writing!
Replying to @TheStalwart
Maybe AI will kill us all one day. Or maybe it will deprive us of livelihoods and meaning.. But in the meantime, just as the arrival of writing caused an explosion of philosophical interest among the ancient Greeks, the arrival of talking computers is doing the same to us now.

To any reasonable person, keeping Ashutosh and Saurav in custody can only be meant to break their spirit, and through it, to instil fear in peaceful protesters. I regret to say that this is not about the law. It is about placing a price on the exercise of constitutional rights.

Two young men on their way to join a peaceful protest were arrested & have been in Tihar Central Jail for 5 days now.
This would be unbelievable even in the worst of democracies.
Why are we allowing this travesty? If you don’t speak up for them, there’s gonna be no one standing up for you tomorrow.
RELEASE @SauravDassss & @AshutoshRanka NOW!

People can have differences and nuanced takes on CJP but it is inexcusable to remain silent on the custody of Ashutosh and Saurav. This is an egregious violation of a citizen's liberty. Please speak up. If not on principle, than in self-interest, for this is setting a precedent.

Another way the current administration is trapped in the ZERO-SUM FALLACY: The H-1B visa situation.
+ You are NOT taking a job from a citizen, rather creating jobs by increasing overal economic output. Plus these people (even vegetarians) SPEND locally.
+ The US has long been benefiting from other countries' brain drain; without it its edge wd collapse. Tesla, Von Braun, von Neumann, Fermi & Einstein did NOT each take the job of a citizen.
+ It the problem is anti-Indian racism, say it, don't play games.

Businesses do not suffer because of peaceful protests. They suffer when the govt decides to shut down an entire city, suspend internet services and restrict the movement of its own citizens and turn the city into a war-zone.
Since its inception, the Cockroach Janta Party has maintained that we will always follow Gandhi’s path of peace and non-violence, and we have stood by that commitment. We have organised protests in Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Lucknow, Bengaluru and Nagpur, and every single one of them has been peaceful. I was personally assaulted in Jaipur, but even then, I chose not to retaliate because responding to violence with violence goes against everything we believe in. We would rather exercise the rights guaranteed to us by the Constitution, drafted under the leadership of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, than resort to physical force. Our strength comes from our commitment to constitutional values, and no amount of provocation will make us abandon them.
Despite this, there are constant attempts to portray us as anarchists simply because we refuse to remain silent. But demanding answers from the govt is not anarchy, protesting against injustice on the streets is not anarchy, and questioning those who hold public office is certainly not anarchy. These are the most fundamental expressions of democracy. The very party that is in power today spent decades organising protests, taking to the streets and questioning the governments of the day when it was in opposition. Had the same restrictions, intimidation and police crackdowns been used against them, many of those who occupy positions of power today might never have reached where they are. It is deeply hypocritical to celebrate protests as a democratic right when you are in opposition and treat the same act as a threat to public order when you come to power.
We are not asking for privileges or special treatment. We are simply asking to exercise the rights that belong to every citizen of this Republic, irrespective of which party is in power. So let us fulfil our duty as citizens of this country by questioning those we elect, demanding accountability and speaking up whenever we witness injustice.
A govt that has been elected by the people is bound to listen to the people, not silence them. Democracy does not end once the votes have been counted.

The Daulatpur Community Centre is a Delhi Police torture centre.
These heartless monsters are hitting students on crothes. Young women's dupattas are used to choke them. Outside, goons give rape and death threats to volunteers trying to get water in. What the fuck is going on.
