If you want a measure of the scale of the transatlantic rift, consider this: I am told yesterday was the 1st time since 1945 the US voted with Russia & against Europe at the UN on an issue of European security. Just let that sink in. 1/4

Tonight, House Republicans passed a budget that dismantles Medicaid, cuts food assistance for vulnerable communities, and strips funding from public schools while giving tax handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk and adding $3.3 trillion to our deficit.
I voted NO. A 🧵

Trump, Musk, & Vance's power grab is crumbling. Their greed-fueled chaos—stock crashes, judicial attacks, & dictatorial alliances—shows they serve only themselves. Time’s up for this corrupt trio; people are waking up. Act now before they destroy democracy.

Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. Nervous Musk, Trump, Vance have all been outclassed in public arguments these last few days. Government failure, stock market crash, and dictatorial alliances are not popular. People are starting to realize that there is no truth here beyond the desire for personal wealth and power.

In the United States Armed Forces, you swear an oath to the Constitution — not a person, not a political party. It’s an oath I took for the first time at age eighteen when I entered the Naval Academy, and have taken numerous times throughout my career. I will never abandon that oath, and I will always fight to protect the men and women who risk their lives to serve our country. (9/9)
DOGE should actually be labeled DODGE which is what criminals do when a law is broken and they don't want to go to jail!
Replying to @NPRinskeep
DOGE is not a cost saving effort.
DOGE is a clandestine operation to secure an authoritarian regime beyond elections.

Machines are agents of those in power.

Thanks Jack. But guess what, the nut just signed an order to get rid of the USPS. Yeah, so with that and the IRS gutted tax season should be fun.

Jack is not exaggerating. Potentially life saving research is in jeopardy. Our standing in the world is in jeopardy. We are losing graduate students, the principal scientists of tomorrow. This will have devastating effects.

This does not surprise me at all. The objective is to destroy America. Every step they take has the unmistakable characteristic of hurting America and Americans. Putin, Xi, and all the other authoritarian regimes are gleeful to see their nemesis be torn apart, but by bit.

A friend of mine had spent much of his life doing research for a cure for aids. His lifetime of work is at risk of being wiped out, lost forever, his grant halted. Cancer, Alzheimer’s, diseases that kill us, will continue as we go backwards. May Karma find all that did this to us

I received this message. Please help spread the word. You mothers life may depend on it:
Hey Jack, I know you are a busy man, but I wanted to pass along information that the public likely does not know about and you have a large reach.
I am a cancer researcher at Henry Ford Hospital and Michigan State University. Today, we found out that the administration is going around court orders and blocking all research funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH).
They blocked the ability of the NIH to communicate with the federal registrar and list the study sections (scientific review committees to score grants) and council meeting (funding decisions on highly scored grants).
What this does is effectively stop these committee meetings because all meetings must be listed by the federal registrar.
This is how the administration is skirting the court orders to keep research funding open. Now, basic and translational (bench to bedside) research is blocked indefinitely.
They also are screening all applications for any "DEI" or "gender identity" words. No joke, a grant about improving transitioning from high school to college was block for using the word "transitioning".
This is unacceptable and will put the US behind all other nations, stop medical and tech advances, and have a massive effect on the economy.
For every tax payer dollar invested in research, there is about a 3 dollar return. This is unbelievable and the nation is universally behind cancer and medical research.
Also, they cut 20% of the NIH workforce last Friday and will likely fire all division heads tomorrow.
Please spread the word if you can! We are trying to come up with solutions as a scientific community and have been calling representatives nonstop. Thanks!!

Wow. Lots of older white people in Georgia in a Republican district not happy with King Trump. Something is happening.
The town hall crowd peppers Rep. Rich McCormick with boos and catcalls as he struggles to answer a pointed question from a resident who says she’s a descendant of Patrick Henry who pressed him on whether Trump was moving toward “tyranny.” #gapol

Maddow: Which makes him, at this point in his term, not only the most unpopular president in 70 plus years of Gallup polling,
Gallup says it actually puts him 15 points below the average polling for presidents over the last 72 years in which they have been doing this polling at this point in a presidential term
