I am in the ENT waiting room for what feels like my 100th visit. My sinuses did not used to look like this. Covid did that and came through like a bad tenant. It punched holes in the walls and ran its truck through the garage door on the way out. And then it came back again and again. Because apparently that is just what we do now. We get force infected on repeat and call it a cold. And here I am in the medical complex, the very place that is supposed to fix what Covid broke, and everyone around me is orchestrating a symphony of coughs, sniffles, and sneezes. The woman across from me is coughing into the open. A kid checking in is sneezing like there is no tomorrow. No masks. Not a single one to be found. It is like being stuck inside a burning building where everyone is calmly roasting marshmallows. They send me to get my allergy panel, which is a cruel little irony, because at this point I am allergic to the air. The phlebotomist has the sniffles. A full on, wet sniffle while she ties off my arm to take my blood to see what I am allergic to. I wanted to say, "I think I am allergic to THIS." So the doctor comes in, looks at my scan, and says, "Wow." My sinuses really do look like an ant farm. Little tunnels and craters where it should be smooth. She says, "Let us try the steroid rinse for 3 months." I nod like a good patient. What else am I going to do? It is the final chapter before they schedule the surgery. Shake, pour, tilt, burn, and pray. Those are the instructions. And here is what I keep thinking about while the rinse stings. Covid is slowly weeding us out. Sinus by sinus, lung by lung, and brain by brain. Slowly and insidiously, it takes us. And what we learned from all this is that we are just supposed to just keep casually walking around coughing, sneezing and sniffling on each other, pretending we do not see it. No one connects the dots because no one wants to look at the shit show. Everyone just allows the Covid timeline to proceed with this slow, unacknowledged erosion, and call that normal.

another week of rocking up to work in my N95 everyday as the only person consistently masking in a clinic while everyone around me coughs and complains about illness

Etsy has banned AI-generated patterns and bot listings, and will now require sellers to post a real photo of the actual handmade item, protecting its 5 million mostly women-run shops.

"History was full of the bones of good men who’d followed bad orders in the hope that they could soften the blow. Oh, yes, there were worse things they could do, but most of them began right where they started following bad orders." — Terry Prachett, Jingo
Rubio: “The president does not like to see this image of a ballistic missile hitting an apartment building in Kyiv and innocent civilians being wiped out as a result.” If Trump dislikes Russian ballistic attacks so much, then why withhold intelligence about Russian launches, stripping people in Kyiv of their chance to take cover and survive? Why throttle Starshield speeds, rendering our jet-powered drone interceptors useless? Something doesn’t add up. Either Rubio is living in his own reality, or this whole administration takes us for complete idiots.

how convenient for corporations rn that any condition out of the ordinary will raise prices and the removal of that condition never seems to mean they lower them

One day I realized there was a limit to how many books I'd get to read in my life. If I don't know the author & want to find something redeeming, and if I'm not obligated to review it for work, I DNF after 100 at most (keeping in mind 100 pages for me is about an hour).
Some readers abandon a book after 20 pages. Others finish 250 pages just to confirm they hated it. Which one are you ?

Catapult was one of the very few avenues BIPOC and working-class writers could access to the literary world via classes or generous editors who took a chance on pitches. I just feel so much for the editors, writers, and teachers, and the huge loss this means for us all.
The decision to suspend the publisher's editorial and educational arms will "consolidate our efforts around our book publishing program," the publisher said in a statement. pwne.ws/3jPFpSd

One of the most successful things both parties have achieved is convincing Americans that our foreign policy has absolutely nothing to do with our domestic policy, and that the woes of the world aren't directly tied to our own.
I'm borrowing money to keep up with increasing medical costs, food and bills but I'm getting calls, messages and leaflets on my door talking about genocide? Are you kidding me? Fuck you and your bullshit genocide cries. IDGAF! I'm tired of it.

Darren Seals helped organize the movement pictured in the 1st image and was later found shot inside his car, covered in flames. We resist KNOWING what's on the other side of it. Mfs too forgetful.
"Why won't Americans protest like that...." We do. Y'all may have short attention spans, but i don't. Black and Brown folk be fighting for their liberty and the police will throw everything back at them. The question is why won't YOU fight?

Shocking stat, which doesn't even take into account covid's role in triggering or worsening dementia. Exercising (especially cardio, lower body strength & yoga) & healthy eating (aka plants) are key to helping lower your risk. So, too, is wearing a respirator in public spaces.

This may come as a shock to some, but I don’t want a cold either. Being sick sucks, why wouldn’t I avoid it if I can?

On average men were diagnosed in 3 months. Women in 2 years. Women's auto-immune diseases aren't trickier. But doctors afford women less epistemological authority. Women are simply considered less trustworthy, even, especially, about themselves. theguardian.com/society/2026…

I don't care if you like Sally Rooney's books or not. This is about the UK effectively banning an author's work because she is vocal in her support for the Palestinian people. I don't care whether you personally like her. Nor should you. It's about censorship. It's unhinged.
