I finally figured out how to design my radiator cover because of Nicole Kidman's monologue in Eyes Wide Shut.

Had the unique joy of showing the ending of Beau Travail to a group of first year film students to explain who Denis Lavant is. For those of you already familiar with Lavant REDOUBT is unmissable. An incredible tour de force from the greatest physical actors of cinema.
We are hosting the North American Premiere of John Skoog's Redoubt (Värn) starring Denis Lavant @TIFF_NET on Thursday, October 27th. Introduction by MDFF Selects co-founder and curator Kazik Radwanski @redvineski. tiff.net/events/redoubt

The National Film Board of Canada was founded in 1939 by John Grierson who invented the term "documentary" The first Canadian fiction films in the 60s, Le Chat dans le sac and Nobody Waved Goodbye, pretended to be docs to trick the NFB for funding. We have a long history of this.
With the popularity of Nathan Fielder, Nirvanna The Band The Show, and Blue Heron, I wonder if the movie of the moment is a new "Kiarostami wave" where filmmakers foreground the interplay of fiction vs. reality in our AI era. The Shrouds and Caught by the Tides are other examples

This is Humber Polytechnic erasure. Fielder studied Comedy Writing and Performance program in 2006 after the commerce degree. Also, recently learned from the new Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald documentary that both he and Tom Green went to Algonquin College.
Be Nathan Fielder: > grow up in Vancouver, Canada > join your high school improv group alongside Seth Rogen > graduate with a commerce degree in 2005 > decide accounting isn't for you > start doing comedy > land a correspondent role on This Hour Has 22 Minutes > create a segment called Nathan on Your Side > give real people increasingly ridiculous advice with a completely straight face > turn the concept into Nathan for You on Comedy Central in 2013 at 29 > spend four seasons convincing real businesses to try increasingly absurd marketing schemes > sign an overall production deal with HBO in 2019 > convince them to fund The Rehearsal > build an exact replica of a New York bar so one man can practise a conversation > co-create The Curse with Benny Safdie and cast Emma Stone > return to The Rehearsal in 2025 and spend over two years learning to fly >actually pilot a Boeing 737 carrying more than 100 actors >secretly spend three years filming convicted Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes > co-direct You Can See Everything with Lance Oppenheim > convince A24 to release the nearly three-hour documentary > make it for roughly $7 million > open in 2026 to $15 million from just 855 cinemas > sell out more than 2,000 screenings in one weekend deliver the biggest non-music documentary opening in over 20 years nice

I froze and didn't stand up for someone. When reflecting on it I thought of this scene from A Woman Under the Influence which I hadn't really thought about before. It's so funny and absurd but also so horribly human and tragic.

Very relaxed deer eating some leaves by the Don Valley River. This is on the trail just a little north of the green pedestrian bridge at Riverdale Park.

The most famous high school is actually in Toronto’s East End.
That is possibly the most famous high school in the United States

I never asked for screening fees until my 3rd feature when I saw how much my sales agent was getting. I normally waive fees in exchange for travel or extra accommodation but every filmmaker should train themselves to always ask. I had to work on it, it didn't come natrually.
Most festivals pay screening fees. You should always ask for a screening fee. $400 is normally what we propose if they don't offer one. You can always waive it if they seem like a cool festival in a region or country without much cultural funding.

My first move as the new CEO of Cineplex would be to introduce new characters like Molly Monopoly, Andy Anti-Trust, Zachary Zoningpractice, Peter Pricefixer, Billy Billionaire
My first move as the new CEO of Cineplex is to officially ban Tommy Texter, Sammy Scroller, Suki Snapper, Susie Seat Kicker and Sally Soundtrack. I’m honestly not sure how they’ve been allowed to harass our customers for this long. They are vile, disgusting people.

When Irreversible released on DVD in 2002 I didn’t know how to setup a home theatre and had the bass maxed out. Watched the entire film with this droning and nauseating soundtrack that made dialogue indecipherable. Assumed it was intentional. Just Noé being an enfant terrible
Does anyone have any more examples

Only one Canadian film has ever been nominated for Best Director and it lost to an American film directed by a Canadian. Let's correct that.
Replying to @SophyRomvari
Technically also eligible for Best Director and Best Screenplay against a long list of men and Olivia Wilde

I remember a Québécois filmmaker telling me it was his first time attending VIFF and visiting Vancouver. Why go to Vancouver when a fight to Paris is the same duration?

Most importantly Nico has a new film called Everything Else is Noise and it's having its North American premiere tonight at @TIFF_NET in @WVLGTHS. This is his third consecutive year with a film at the festival and it is of course a Canadian production. tiff.net/films/everything-el…
Sometimes when I cite Pereda as a Toronto filmmaker people question it. A major influence on our movement were directors like Nico who came to Toronto as international students. Here's a recent clip of Matt talking about Nico. They were classmates for four years at York.
