We at VortUK have officially named this system Storm Alex, our first unofficial storm of the season. Status Orange and Yellow Rain Warnings are in effect for South Ireland. Stay tuned for updates and coverage tomorrow.

As the 2024/25 storm season officially kicks off, we have made our unofficial name list as we think it will be more memorable for the younger generation as the names are not complicated or unheard of. We will be naming our storms using a special criterion our team has produced. We don't want to confuse the names of storms with anything that the @metoffice or @MetEireann will use throughout the year. Th is only a test and we will be constantly trying to improve our naming system over the years. Thank you for your time,
