An exciting way to introduce your children to the game of chess is to tap into their imaginations through the use of storytelling. Anyone can turn the chessboard into a fantastical world with imaginative narratives. Here are some ideas:

A very common question I often get from casual players (1,000-1800 level) is what are some of the best openings I would recommend?
The answer is none! Literally everything is playable, just pick something you like and go with it. However, instead of focusing so much time on openings, players in this rating range would be far better off focusing on tactics, middlegame strategies, and endgames (especially King & Pawn endgame and Rook & Pawn endgame), etc. It is much more important to understand chess.
This is why as the #1 chess author (Chess: 5334 Problems/Combinations, Teach Yourself Chess in 24 hours, World Champion’s Guide to Chess, Chess Tactics for Champions, Learn Chess the Right Way 5-volume series, Rich as a King, Breaking Through, etc.), I have never done a single book on openings. I do not do things I don’t believe in even if I have to lose out monetarily.
To give you a simple example to back it up, if a player (1,000-1,800) play against an average grandmaster, and the GM opens with 1. h3 or 1. a3, or 1…h6 or 1…a6, could this player beat the GM? The answer is most likely (99.99%) no. I know some will be angry at me for this opinion, but it is what it is. This is my firm belief and I am sticking with it. 😁
I just posted a clarification: One can study openings, but that should be a small percentage of the time devoting to chess training. Every player is different but I would recommend only 5% to maximum 20% focusing on openings. The rest should be serious focused on the areas I mentioned above. Good luck!
