Bizarre experience at @LBofBromley. Councillors prayed to God to give them wisdom to make the right decisions.
Then Colin Smith,CEO Adetosoye& @MayorofBromley0 said, who cares if we signed off your block with no fire breaks, we'll keep the £1 mil tax you've paid on flats worth £0.

The people who buy homes are the least important consideration, got to keep the development juggernaut moving no matter how much toxic crap it belches out.

Freeholders want to use the same funny maths that employers used for decades to claim that their pension schemes had more than enough £££ to pay all benefits. Then the truth escaped and government had to step in. Will Labour allow this??
Embarrassing!
@AngelaRayner shouldn’t let the threat of lawfare from lobbyists dictate policy.
Labour promised to free leaseholders.
Parliament is sovereign.
Stop diluting the reforms.
If rentier interests want to sue, let them.
This should be classic Labour territory.

Let me get this right, HMRC happy to go into our bank accounts whenever they like but Residential Freeholders, Managing Agents, Cladding Manufacturers bank accounts to pay for the building safety crisis ?
I’ll be here waiting…

And they wonder why the market collapsed.
Cladding
Latent defects
And, as engineers review their designs against the accepted norm of the last 25 yrs - structural issues: was the design compliant at build. If it was, is that still good enough?
I’m in this situation. A shitshow.

There’s literally a children’s board game whose whole premise is showing how free market capitalism ends with one person owning everything while everyone else goes bankrupt.

Leaseholders, if you still haven’t filled out the govt consultation on rates to buy yr freehold , read this. Best account of the sitch I’ve seen. Don’t let @mtpennycook betray you. order-order.com/2026/10/21/l…

It really is this simple politicians and constructors….
Many buildings weren't built correctly in the first place. Why are any innocent leaseholders paying for any historic fire safety defects? The latest Bill proposed by @AngelaRayner and @mhclg doesn't go far enough to help #endourcladdingscandal. 👇🏼 @LBC interview with @AliMirajUK

Remember when we learned that our wealthiest and most powerful people were connected to a guy who ran a literal child sex trafficking ring? And then that guy died mysteriously in a jail? And now we just don't talk about it.

A property blogger reports a leaseholders service charge rising from £216 to £733 a month, alongside a proposed major works programme including over £500,000 for balcony flooring alone.
When does financial liability become financial persecution?
Leaseholders don't control the building, its maintenance history, the contractors or the decisions that lead to these extraordinary bills. Yet they're expected to shoulder potentially unlimited costs, regardless of their ability to pay or the value of their homes.
Nobody disputes the need for essential maintenance. But there must be statutory limits on what ordinary homeowners can reasonably be expected to contribute.
Owning a modest flat should never mean accepting unlimited financial liability for a building you don't control.
Leasehold reform must address affordability, not just forfeiture.
