B’Tselem urgently calls on governments and international institutions to act now, using all means available under international law, to prevent the forcible displacement of Palestinian civilians, collective punishment and extensive unlawful destruction in Hebron. Israeli leaders are openly declaring their intentions, and actions on the ground have already begun. Following the shooting near Hebron on 23 October, in which two Israeli soldiers were killed, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz openly announced plans to forcibly displace Palestinian residents and carry out extensive destruction in the area. In a statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared: “We will apply in the cities the successful offensive model we implemented in the refugee camps.” That same model has already displaced more than 33,000 Palestinians in the northern West Bank. Now, Israeli leaders are threatening to bring the same mass displacement and destruction to Hebron. Implementation has already begun. Israeli forces imposed a cordon on Hebron and Halhul, while the Civil Administration began demolishing Palestinian structures in the neighborhood of Farsh al-Hawa. At the same time, Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the establishment of four new settlement farming outposts in the South Hebron Hills. Israeli leaders are openly announcing plans for collective punishment and acts that could constitute war crimes. These plans echo Israel’s devastating operations as part of the genocide in Gaza and mark a further escalation of its ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing as part of the Elimination Project in the West Bank: the systematic dismantling of Palestinian collective life while expanding settlements and entrenching permanent Israeli control. The world cannot stand by as Israel continues its assault on Palestinians, waiting for yet more neighborhoods to be emptied and erased before intervening, despite what we have already witnessed in Gaza and the northern West Bank. Governments and international bodies must act now to prevent these crimes and protect Palestinian civilians.

A landmark trial accusing Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 34 senior political and military figures of crimes against humanity had its first formal hearing in Istanbul today. Turkish prosecutors have charged 35 Israeli defendants, including Netanyahu and ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Israel Katz, with torture, unlawful deprivation of liberty, aggravated robbery, vessel hijacking and crimes against humanity in relation to last year’s Gaza aid flotilla. They are also accused of genocide in Palestine. The trial had its first formal hearing this morning following the issuing of arrest warrants in July and Turkish requests for an Interpol red notice in August. Charges are being pursued under universal jurisdiction, which allows countries to address international crimes occurring abroad. The case focuses primarily on incidents surrounding the illegal interception of boats from the 2025 Global Sumud Flotilla mission. On 31 August 2025, more than 50 ships carrying around 500 participants from 44 countries set off from Barcelona to break Israel’s illegal blockade of Gaza and deliver aid to those trapped there. The flotilla was subject to a number of drone attacks, most notably off the coasts of Tunisia and Greece, before being illegally intercepted by Israel in international waters. Those on board were detained and have accused Israeli forces of subjecting them to human rights abuses including rape, assault, degrading treatment, withholding of medical care and more. Turkey negotiated the release of hundreds of participants, including a Novara Media contributor, on charter flights to Istanbul, where legal and medical teams gathered evidence of severe mistreatment. “This trial is not just about seeking justice for the 101 victims represented in this case; it is a fundamental challenge to the doctrine of impunity," said the Global Sumud Flotilla legal team. "When states use armed force against unarmed civilians attempting to deliver life-saving relief to a starved population, individuals within that chain of command must face judicial scrutiny." The trial in Istanbul comes as prosecutors in Rome, Italy, expand an investigation into Israeli officials for the mistreatment of 50 Italian participants of Global Sumud Flotilla missions. Officials including Ben-Gvir, Katz, IDF chief of staff Eyal Zamir and 11 others are being investigated for suspected torture, kidnapping, personal injury, robbery, property damage and damage causing danger of shipwreck.

Genocide is still on. Principled action - from states, companies, institutions and people - is needed to stop it. Worldwide strike- Oct 30.
100+ PORTS. WORLDWIDE. NO MORE WEAPONS. On October 30th, dockworkers, seafarers, students and communities in more than 100 ports around the world are standing together to say one thing: NO MORE WEAPONS. War doesn’t run itself. It runs on our hands loading the cargo, and on our silence when blockades are enforced. Governments and corporations that profit from it have counted on both for too long. From now on, they get neither. NO TO THE WAR MACHINERY. We take the ports. We take the streets. We shut it down. Oct 30th Action map link: gsumud.link/OCT30

Hillary Clinton: "there should be no doubt in anyone's mind how seriously netanyahu has damaged, first and foremost, Israel... and second, the perception that people, not just in the United States, but around the world, have of Israel. And that has to be repaired." To rephrase, the victims of Israel's genocide of the Palestinians are FIRST AND FOREMOST the Israelis who have suffered the reputational damage.

These students deserve the chance to study. Their future cannot be held hostage by a visa process that ignores the extraordinary circumstances they face.

A reminder of why it’s so significant that it is South Africa taking Israel to the ICJ: SA triumphed over racist apartheid with BDS playing a crucial role in its overthrow; Israel was apartheid SA’s closest ally providing weaponry, military training & nuclear know how; SA gave up its nuclear weapons; Mandela & Desmond Tutu condemned Israel’s apartheid, the latter describing it as worse than SA apartheid
South Africa has officially submitted a substantial dossier to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), detailing Israel’s continued non-compliance with legally binding provisional measures. The submission, formally handed over on 25 August 2026, serves to assist an ICJ committee of judges tasked with monitoring the implementation of the court’s orders in Gaza. According to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), Israel’s non-compliance directly undermines the protective functions of international justice. Hence, the submission is a vital milestone in the struggle for global accountability. By formally documenting Israel’s refusal to adhere to the court’s binding provisional measures, Pretoria is doing far more than advocating for Palestinian survival.
