‘I’ve always wanted to take pictures from the moment my dad helped steady his Rolleiflex in my shakey little hands while I took my first picture. His death greatly influenced why and what I see, and how I photograph it’.

Across from Luskentyre on Harris, in the Outer Hebrides. Pink clouds over the hills, turquoise water and miles of white sand. It's one of my favourite places to photograph anywhere.

This story is bigger than a book simply being cancelled.
Penguin Random House pulled Alana Hadid and Jenan Matari’s book about the Palestinian experience after clashing with them over how to tell Palestine’s story.
Apparently, even a children’s book about Palestine needs a disclaimer making sure everyone knows October 7 was illegal, while the Nakba, occupation and decades of dispossession are up for editorial debate.
Alana and Jenin eventually walked away rather than publish a version they couldn’t stand behind.
Imagine having to fight a publisher just to tell your own people’s story.
Thankfully, Palestinian-owned Interlink Books will publish it in 2027.

Taking photographs and writing are interdependent practices; his images invoke stories, which he then spontaneously writes. Rendering images as diaries or poems is a way of prolonging and intensifying the all-too-brief moment of the photograph itself.

That @Ed_Miliband speech praised for its bravery was too timid to end a ban on freedom of speech that jails grandmothers with "I oppose genocide" signs and keeps mainstream novels out of circulation.
