Our latest article. My partner Dr D was the driving force on it, as well as my resident Dannie. It’s a simple technique that doesn’t risk the sural nerve, and with a bit of planning on CT has worked well for me. journals.lww.com/otainternat…

The operating room is a hostile environment for surgeons. 38% of surgeons are in pain. 87% if using an endoscope. A primer on surgical ergonomics to save you suffering 🧵

As I explain in #Making_Sense_of_Cancer, our cells have two options as they accumulate more mutations with age: Either they listen to the genetic control mechanism and shut down through apoptosis. That is aging. Alternatively, they acquire mutations in the control mechanism and continue to divide uncontrollably. That is cancer. Either way, it represents the end of the multicellular organism. As you indicate, the blind and the naked mole rats live longer than other rodents and tend to die due to aging rather than cancer. This characteristic is somehow related to their peculiar lifestyle of hibernating underground in hypoxic conditions. It may be possible for humans to artificially shift the balance from cancer to aging, but that will probably come at the expense of longevity. The easiest way not to get cancer is to die of other causes first. As I describe in the link below, I would personally rather take my chances and hope to die of cancer. If we want to live forever, however, we have to genetically and epigenetically renew our cells on a regular basis. That won’t be easy, it won’t be cheap, and I fear the disruption to society will be devastating. Again, on a personal note, I see children as the greatest joy of life, and I am more than happy to pass the torch to the next generations. @ellenhuet @iatrogenful @OssiRahkonen @MaxFromMax @meccanismo @Joh99Sp @sunilbhop @Richard56 @JasonConnection @b12369047 @MauiWahini @jav_riv @Medical_Nemesis @SM23094607 @GordonMarino @Victor_Tancredi @KarlPettersso10 @BGressetvold @gjesp_no @JonLaake @shahjalalsiam @sAE3tT @ChristophAdami @didactist richardswsmith.wordpress.com…

I have been saying that #orthobiologics is a fad and hype. Instead of developing new "treatments" we should gain better understanding of the common diseases and their mechanisms. #orthobiologics has no role in #EvidenceBasedOrthopaedics 👇 nature.com/articles/s41591-0…

I share the feeling #ArmUkraineNow
As a European citizen, I feel deep, deep shame that this great man who has led his people at war against barbarian hordes for 2 years now has to travel the world as a beggar to get the means to continue the fight. They fight alone, for all of us. What the hell is wrong with us?

If you do a trial that introduces a structured process (eg checklist) and finds an increase in compliance to the process post implementation, it is, in part, because you’ve simply made data collection easier post implementation.

I use MRI in lower back pain 🤭 I also get asked frequently how I manage the scan follow up consults & handle patient Qs So here is a mini-thread which gives a little comms synopsis - some may nod sagely, others may roll their eyes - that’s cool - no right or wrong.

Sci Hub is a "pirate" website with 88M research papers freely available. Using it is not advisable. We should all try to make billion-dollar acdemic publishers richer. Here's a thread on integrating Zotero with Sci Hub to get free articles. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS 😉

Leger Uten Grensers klinikk i Gaza by ble mandag morgen beskutt. Våre kollegaer så at en vegg ble revet ned og deler av bygningen var under intens beskytning mens harde kamper pågikk rundt hele bygget. En israelsk stridsvogn ble observert i gaten. 1/5
