- Adjusted operating income was $1.6B in the first half of 2026, up from a $1.8B adjusted loss a year earlier
- Revenue grew 1,368% year over year in Q2, while compute and infrastructure costs grew 300%
- Compute went from 251% of revenue to 48% in five quarters
- The value of Anthropic’s own internal Claude usage grew 250x from January to September 2026
- Anthropic spends more on tokens (at list price) than on payroll

- Nearly $800B in compute commitments over 10 years
$141.1B raised in total, with over $130B in cash and short-term investments
- Nearly half of revenue comes through Amazon, Google and Microsoft’s cloud marketplaces, all of which also compete with Claude
- A single share held by the seven co-founders carries 50.1% of the vote
- That share is redeemed for nothing if fewer than three founders remain
Krishna Rao is the CFO of Anthropic, and this is his first podcast appearance.
He joined the company two years ago when run-rate revenue was about $250M. Today it is $30B. He has helped raise ~$75B and is responsible for the procurement and allocation of compute.
I feel lucky we get to hear what it is like to sit inside a company this consequential at a moment this pivotal.
We discuss:
- The cone of uncertainty
- How he allocates compute across Trainium, TPUs, and GPUs
- What investors misunderstand about model companies
- Why the returns to frontier intelligence keep rising
- Platform vs application and where Anthropic builds its own products
- How Anthropic uses Claude internally
I have asked my closing question about the kindest thing more than 500 times. Krishna's answer is one I have never heard before.
Enjoy!

Good Newtral piece feat @SoyMmadrigal: A week of recruiting of teens in Spain, with fresh TikTok accounts, directing them towards closed groups, telling them to wear black and inciting violence.
Pics speak for themselves: No organic movement - someone is trying to create chaos.

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon pushes back after being asked why America’s CEOs are afraid to criticize President Trump: “I’ve said what I think. What the hell else do you want me to say?” 🇺🇸
Interviewer: “I’m genuinely struck by the unwillingness of CEOs in America to say anything critical. There’s a climate of fear in your country. Would you agree with that?”
Jamie Dimon: “The Davos intellectual elite. I’ve been coming to Davos all these years, listening to chatter and stuff like that. Has it done a good job making the world a better place? We get together and talk. What do you want me to do?
I have strong views. Some of the things Trump has done are good, and some are not.
I’m not a tariff guy. Do I use it in certain cases? Yes. I think they should change their approach to immigration. I’ve said it.
What the hell else do you want me to say? I’m trying to have a conversation.”

Western defense contractors (Lockheed Martin, RTX and peers) and oil supermajors (Exxon, Shell, BP, Chevron, Total) rank among the largest financial gainers. US military aid largely funds US-made weapons and stockpile replenishment, driving contractor revenues and share buybacks. Energy price spikes generated hundreds of billions in oil profits. Russian oligarchs also grew wealth via military contracts, asset takeovers and import substitution. Some Ukrainian business circles gained from reconstruction and logistics amid reported wartime graft. Ordinary citizens on all sides paid the heaviest price.

I visited Wurster Hall at UC Berkeley today. It was designed by, and currently houses, the architecture faculty.
The UC Berkeley website notes that "Wurster is often voted Berkeley's ugliest building."
I visited because I was curious about whether it would in person seem as unattractive as it does in photos. And, in short: it does. It's gaunt, austere, and filmed in grime. On an elysian campus, it stands out for its bleak hostility. It reminds me of the German submarine base in Bordeaux.
The UC Berkeley page agrees that it was never designed to be attractive, quoting the curator of their design archives: “Wurster and his handpicked architects didn’t want anything romantic, or sentimental — they hated the idea of ‘making pretty buildings. They wanted a serious building.”
I guess we have to concede success relative to their stated goals, but it does make one wonder what it all says about architecture as a discipline.

Finnair’s luxury lounges have a replica of the Black Sauna of Vaajakoski - the 18th Century rural institution where highway robbers were purified before being fed to ravenous bears.
🇫🇮 Finnair's platinum wing is a literal first class lounge, even without the airline having a first class cabin. It goes without saying, I needed to add the sauna experience at the airport. This is probably my favorite airport lounge in Europe.

As an aside, IQ strongly correlates with walking speed.
The correlation is, like, extremely significant. There are essentially zero outliers.
Top quintile walkers are a full standard deviation smarter than bottom quintile walkers.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
A 2019 Dunedin study reports moderate correlation (β=0.38) between midlife IQ and gait speed with ~16-point mean quintile difference. "Essentially zero outliers" does not match this association's strength.
