It’s time to pass the Delivery Protection Act and make our streets safer!
If we are serious about protecting workers and delivering economic justice to all New Yorkers, we must confront the systems that are holding us back.

🎉 Congratulations to Audra, Steven, Rinu, Rashida and Pieter for their recognition at this month’s Customer Service Awards.
They exemplify the best of DCWP, elevating the standard for all city service.
We are so grateful to have them on our team!

Tech should work for New Yorkers, not against them. The complaint portal we rolled out alongside @helloDCWP for NYC's NEW Click-to-Cancel rule represents a prime example of this belief put into action.
If you have a stubborn subscription, your first stop is nyc.gov/clicktocancel. We'll help guide you through the rest.

Bureaucracy cannot be the enemy of getting shit done. In that spirit, we’re introducing legislation, in partnership with @NYCMayor and @HelloDCWP, to cut red tape and empower the city to act faster against unconscionable business practices.
Samuel Levine retweeted
Cancelling a subscription shouldn't be this hard. If you can sign up with a click, you must be able to cancel with one.
Head to nyc.gov/click-to-cancel to file a complaint against any business that makes it hard to cancel a subscription.

Fine print shouldn't be a free pass—and under the POWER Act, it won't be.
It's time to put power directly into New Yorkers' hands and create a robust private right of action. DCWP looks forward to working with Chair @HarveyforNY and @NYCCouncil to pass this legislation.

When New Yorkers get ripped off, they should have the power to fight back.
We’re introducing the POWER Act to give workers, tenants, consumers, small businesses and nonprofits a legal pathway to take on unfair and deceptive business practices.
A tenant shouldn’t have to watch a landlord wrongfully withhold their security deposit. A consumer shouldn’t have to accept predatory loan terms. And New Yorkers shouldn’t have to rely on government alone to hold powerful corporations accountable.
We’re putting power back where it belongs: in the hands of New Yorkers.

At DCWP we are doing more than enforcing workers' rights.
We're standing with workers as they fight to expand them—from @amazonteamsters and the Delivery Protection Act, to @LosDeliveristas and historic deactivation protections.

The POWER Act would be a big for freelancers — including artists whose work is taken by platforms to train AI.
Independent workers increasingly face powerful companies on unequal terms. Giving workers the power to enforce their rights changes that equation.
NEW: @HarveyforNY is introducing a bill backed by @NYCMayor to give individuals a “private right of action,” or the right to file civil lawsuits against companies for unfair and abusive business practices, @danarubinstein reports:

❗ NEW: @NYCMayor introduces the POWER Act!
This bill empowers consumers, workers, small businesses and their organizations to directly fight for their rights against companies for unfair and deceptive practices, rather than rely on City enforcement alone.
Samuel Levine retweeted
And of course, there would be no victory without the @LosDeliveristas leaders who organized and sounded the alarm on DoorDash.
This has been a worker-led fight from day one—and we’re grateful for the @workersjusticep’s partnership.

Terrific to see @NYCMayor's "click to cancel" rule go into effect today.
Trapping customers in subscriptions is against the law.
Businesses must make it as easy to cancel as it is to sign up.
New Yorkers can report subscription traps here: nyc.gov/main/click-to-cancel
Nobody should be stuck paying for a subscription they don’t want because of how absurdly difficult firms make it to cancel.
I’m thrilled that @nycmayor is carrying forward a “click to cancel” rule to protect NYC from this misconduct.
More cities and states should follow suit.

News: At a @nycpolicyforum event, @helloDCWP Commissioner @saalevine announces the city’s intent to protect working New Yorkers from the threat of AI to their economic security.
“As technology reshapes our economy, workers need to be front and center at the decision-making table.”
Samuel Levine retweeted
“If AI gives corporations powerful new ways to divide us, we need to build new ways—and strengthen some very old ones—to act together.”

“This sends a strong message that we are in a new era of enforcement in New York,” said Samuel Levine, the agency’s commissioner, in an interview. “We will not tolerate nickeling and diming New York City workers.”
