Never in my life have I heard of a 5% intro fee, but a bunch of people in the comments are saying it’s standard. Is this just like some parallel venture world where everyone is sketchier?
Someone introduced me to an investor that they thought I would connect with. After the meeting and the investor was really intersted, the person that connected us called me and said he wants 5% of the raise as an intro fee. That's insane, right?

really amazing how people figured out how to have chat protocols that work on spotty connections, don't constantly erase previous messages, and now with trillions of additional dollars these things are impossible

This is like the subprime of databases… But most (still) don’t recover the WAL correctly in at least two ways cf.: 1. “Can Applications Recover from fsync Failures?” 2. “Protocol-Aware Recovery for Consensus-Based Storage” Single node DBs like SQLite can lose committed transactions on storage faults. And distributed protocols (and DBs built on them) like Paxos and Raft can enter split brain and lose the cluster. The papers are worth a slow and careful read.
Yes, that was the fix that most DBMSes applied for fsyncgate But most still don’t use Direct I/O when they replay the WAL on reboot. So they risk externalizing non-durable data as durable (because they still read from the incoherent kernel page cache). cf. “Can Applications Recover from fsync Failure?” which looked into this in 2020, two years after these fixes, and found that PG, SQLite et al were still vulnerable.

Civet cat poop coffee is really overrated. I used to think it was great because it wasn't bitter or sour. But with cold brew I can get non-bitter, non-sour, aromatic coffee for a hundredth of the price. The civet poop stuff doesn't even taste that strong.

Sometimes I worry I'm not qualified to be working in cybersecurity. In times like these, I'm hugely grateful to OpenAI and other frontier labs for the resources they publish to provide myself and others in similar positions with the reassurance and psychological comfort we need.

I am a little under halfway through the Black Hat video and have progressed to the point where my internal chain of thought is something like a blind rage of 'f***, what the f*** are you motherf*****s thinking, you f***ing idiots have no idea how insane you are being, you are going to get us all killed you f***ing f***s.
This is a necessary watch and also a slow watch. As in, not only am I watching it at 1x, I am pausing constantly to both process what I am hearing and talk to Claude about it, and also write about what I'm seeing. It cannot be properly processed in real time.

Working-class people face a lot of obstacles in professional circles because they lack tacit class knowledge. For example, they might commit an accidental faux pas at a soirée, by being unable to recognize the lions on a House's coat of arms, or by treating a duke as a baron
