It cannot be overstated how much red tape Republicans added to the process of getting Medicaid and SNAP.
Millions of people who literally qualify for these programs are being kicked off them, despite qualifying, because of all the red tape Grassley voted to add to them.
❤️❤️❤️
Today, the people of Serbia turned out in record numbers to shape their country’s future.
Congratulations to the Student List on its victory in the parliamentary elections.
We stand ready to support reforms on the rule of law, media freedom, the fight against corruption and strong democratic institutions, and to work together to advance Serbia’s future in the European Union.

Is it “unusual” that a guy from another state who is running for governor in Iowa is funded by the Koch brothers 🤷♀️
NYT: An Iowa Republican’s Unusual Connection to the Kochs
If there is one thing that Zach Lahn, the Republican nominee for governor of Iowa, definitely does not want to talk about, it’s his connection to the Koch family.
To hear Mr. Lahn tell it, he is a self-made businessman, a father of seven and a farmer running against powerful corporate interests. He has campaigned on his financial independence, pointing to the $2.5 million he lent himself during the primary.
He rode that cash and a right-leaning brand of prairie populism to the nomination, defeating President Trump’s preferred pick in the primary. Now he is facing Rob Sand, the Democratic state auditor, in a race that Democrats view as one of their best shots to flip a governorship.
But there is a more complicated tale of Mr. Lahn’s rise that is interwoven with the Kochs, one of America’s richest and most influential political dynasties.

OBAMA on IRAN WAR: Meanwhile, you've got the defense secretary who's squarely focused on the jawlines and testosterone levels of our troops. How much time do you think this Defense Secretary spends looking at himself in the mirror in the morning?

Applebaum: If Russia wins the war, European defense spending would have to triple or quadruple, because the threat would be much greater.
Europe must give Ukraine defenses and offensive weapons to hit enough Russian targets that Moscow concludes it cannot win. 1/

I know Putin is a monster but seeing him ‘thanking Melania Trumр for her humanitarian effort’ in Oleshky after his own Russian army first occupied it to then starve the people there is some very special level of psychopathy

I am always against monkeying around with the Constitution, but if Trump does this and links it to policy areas, then it really is time to change or eliminate the pardon power, which was never supposed to be used as a blanket shield for preventing accountability

Under discussion is pardons everyone in certain policy, like deportation
Does not seem imminent

Russia has been involved with hundreds of physical incidents and plots (excluding cyberattacks) against Europe over the past half a year. This is a very conservative estimate since it requires several layers of verification.

Thanks to UGA folks for inviting me for a talk. Excellent questions at the talk, fun meeting new people, and great to see old ICPSR friends at the SPIA social event.

"Do you consider Russia to be an ally or an enemy of the U.S.?
Registered voters:
Ally 3%
Friendly 7%
Unfriendly 30%
Enemy 48%"
Siding with the Russians is not a great move, especially for states like IA with many older Republican voters 🤷♀️

Bottom line: Anyone building a data center in Iowa should be contributing to Iowa, not extracting from us. They should be paying full freight in taxes and carrying their own weight, not raising your costs for anything, and most of all - should be respecting those who were already here.

The Executive Branch has no authority to regulate states’ election decisions as to candidate qualifications, and the choice to file a lawsuit like this just days before an election speaks volumes about the political corruption festering at the top levels of the DOJ.
