my coworker: you cannot let AI write the whole PR
guy on the internet: i did surgery on a mouse with Claude
Last night an AI agent performed brain surgery on a mouse.
We gave it 19 gene therapy vectors in a spreadsheet, a mouse model of epilepsy, access to a motorize surgery rig with cameras and one goal: reduce seizures.
It picked the drug. It picked the brain region. It derived the coordinates from three papers. Then it drove the stereotaxic arms into the brain and injected 250 nanolitres while watching the entry site through the rig camera for bleeding.
A licensed vet gated every irreversible step and held a physical kill switch to stop the AI agent.
Thread on what it decided, what it saw, and the moment it refused to let me override it.
[Writing this on the spot out of excitement, but I've been 18hrs in front of my laptop coding and coordinating this, so keeping it brief and descriptive, more cohesive thoughts on this soon...]
I have read lots of people saying that Apple no longer knows what they are doing, and while I believe that is true, I don't think they are making these decisions without direction.
Apple usually takes its time with features and hardware because they kind of know where the market is moving.
With the rapid development of technology, they no longer have that privilege.
What do you do when you don't know what the future looks like? You try to cover all your bases.
They have deep pockets to do that.
Was Jobs right about vertical touchscreens? Absolutely. I have used them myself, and everything he said in that keynote was right.
Did Jobs live in an era where people had god-level intelligence machines (LLMs) that they could use to create whatever they want, be creative, and explore? Definitely not.
We no longer know what the future looks like when it comes to software, hardware, and how people will interact with software.
Apple doesn't know either, and they are trying to figure it out.

Every time @calabuigllamas and I discuss a design decision this is her opinion of me.
I believe they would like to push the narrative that you have to pay per task (and the value of such task) and not per token.
With OSS models they can't do that.
Dario Amodei: some tokens Claude produces are worth a few cents, others could be worth tens of millions of dollars.
His examples:
1. Telling someone to restart their Mac: the model has said it 10 million times, worth a dollar or less
2. Telling a pharma company to move an aromatic ring to the other end of a molecule: potentially tens of millions
3. Expect pay-for-results pricing, or labor-like pricing by the hour
4. It's a new industry, so many models will be tried
Today pricing is simpler: per the S-1, usage-based pricing was 80% of H1 2026 revenue and subscriptions 20%.

At this point the best way to avoid getting hacked is to turn everything off, plant tomatoes, and go live in the countryside off grid.

I would really love to see Apple support the software license business model for iOS apps: You pay a one time fee, get the software for life and updates for one year.
After that you only get security updates and no new features, paying again gets you another year of updates.

omfg @buildyourcorner has been charting in spain for months but we could NOT figure out why users couldn't access the app intermittently. even did 50 user cold calls and they kept saying they couldn't use the app at night which was annoying bc the whole use case is where to go out
turns out la liga (spanish football league) has a court order letting them block cloudflare IPs during all match times to stop pirated streams aka ~360 matches × 2.5h per match ≈ 900 hours where corner is blocked
i cannot believe lol
