This is the benchmark that matters: Is OpenAI Decisions API better than JEV at playing my vibe coded Super Fish Balls Game? ~7x a second each gets a text snapshot of the race (speed, next marker, nearby players) and sends back gamepad input.
It's been a minute since I've used the web interfaces for the Claude and ChatGPT - I didn't realize until now that they've migrated toward identical interface. Lazy design by AI, or intentional familiarity to reduce switching cost?

After playing some pinball on our Polycade cabinet, Trista and I revisited VR pinball on our Quest 3, and we both thought it was a meaningfully better and more fun experience in VR.
There is an interesting wrinkle: @PinballFX used an efficient custom engine for a long time, but they switched over to Unreal Engine for their current games to more easily support the wide range of platforms they deploy on. Pinball FX uses Unreal, but they left the older version available as PinballFX Classic, which makes for a nice comparison.
After downloading the 40x larger new application, you find that it has tons of customization features and environmental effects, but most tables drop frames even on Quest 3. The Classic version is locked at an unfortunately low resolution, but it feels more solid when actually playing pinball.
Quest Game Optimizer can adjust resolution and frame rate if you are willing to go through the Side Quest dance, making a fairly dramatic impact on the visuals. I just gave Meta a nudge about maybe allowing QGO into the official store, but ideally the developers would add a few lines of cold to the old application to default to different settings for the different Quest headsets. Touching an old application is a bigger ask for a developer than most users appreciate, though.
Both the old and new versions are kind of a mess with preventable visual aliasing. Here is a post I wrote ten years ago about aliasing for GearVR developers, long before Quest existed:

sRGB framebuffers and sRGB textures with mip maps, MSAA, go light on specular shading effects.

The Return of The Giant Arcade Machine! Bay Area Maker Faire this Friday to Sunday. Featuring the Vibeconsole from @dangeislerjr
I think I need to stop using Meta products. Their AI is copying our product in real time. I can’t really complain given the number of vibecoded knockoffs I’ve made. I understand where AI training data comes from, so all’s fair in love and AI training or whatever. But still. This was auto suggestion from Meta AI, I assume based on my instagram posts about BLAMO / vibeconsole.
This is a thing I’ve been saying about BLAMO.ai too. If you spend a day on it, or half a day, and have a bit of game design knowledge (from making OR playing). You can make something actually good. Just because it’s AI, it doesn’t HAVE to be slop.
Update on SVVR 102:
Update on SVVR 102: due to time consideration Julian Gomez is moving his talk to October, which leaves us more time for demos and networking. AND, there's a new sponsor: Dark Arts Syndicate (@darkartsgames)
Gorgeous! I think it’s interesting/telling that devices got pixels so small we can’t see them anymore, but game artists keep bringing them back. Pixels forever!
☠️ We back. VR still not dead. ☠️
SVVR #102: Meta Connect Meetup and Party! 9/24 7:00PM at the Frontier Tower Spaceship - the 2nd floor. 2 speakers named Julian. 2 sweet demos: @boxtree_inc showing Table Space on *Steam Frame* and ...something... very special from our sponsor @PICOXR! Don't miss.
This is the way. Though I think you should both do some of the other.
A builder who never talks to users has a hard time believing the user problems.
A talker who never builds has a hard time understanding builder problems.
I am pro open source AI, but this Anthropic == Fascist thing is so fucking dumb, I can’t even. Freedom != Anarchy.

If you liked my cyberpunk city model, you need to see this. Absolutely incredible work.
The #threejs Cyberpunk project just got an update! 🌧️
You can now take shelter from the rain and see water splashes, thanks to some amazing optimisation work by @sea3dformat using a GPUCompute-based collision system. A really cool technique with incredible performance.
Come join us at @threejsconf and learn this and many other techniques at the #threejs TSL Workshop!

1pass alone is a big win. If you think entering passwords on your phone or computer is annoying, try entering them on a headset.
