Finally updated our labwebsite after 10 years
Science evolved fast, website stayed fossilized
Now it’s caught up with our work from gut to oral microbiomes, big-data neuroimmunology, & our mission to reduce human suffering.

Have you ever wondered how the Comparative Pathology Lab, Iowa Neuropathology Resource Lab and Histology Research Lab work together?
These labs are integral for the function of various services and projects in our department and throughout @uihealthcare

ALT Graphic that shows how the three labs work together. CPL and INRL are on the top row with HRL underneath them. CPL provides tissue preparation services for downstream histology, where INRL provides brain tissue and neuropathology expertise and handles all CNS requests. Those two labs then feed into the HRL, which handles all non-CNS histology requests.

A new study from @Ashu_Mangalam provides evidence that oral microbial imbalance is closely linked to immune activation & metabolic disruption in people with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS), highlighting oral health as an underappreciated contributor to MS pathobiology. #PathTwitter

The immune checkpoint TIM-3 is targeted for cancer therapy, & we found that it is also a promising therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease. Very excited to share this study led by Kimitoshi Kimura, @ayshwaryas @Zhuoran_Yin1 & @AKhalilnezhad @GeneLayInst. Now out @Nature 2/2
Fascinating Finding From @KuchrooLab. Many Congratulation
With @ButovskyLab, we show that silencing TIM-3 in brain-resident immune cells prevents neurodegeneration in a mouse model of #Alzheimers disease. Deletion of TIM-3 in microglia enhances phagocytic clearance of toxic amyloid beta. nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
