It’s a profoundly dire memetic situation where the only significant alternative to predatory race communism is its natural prey, vegetarian whiggery
Here ā€œWestern civilizationā€ is cleaned like an animal carcass, gutted and scraped of all its organs and sinew to avoid touching any of the memetic third rails flogged out of the model during RLHF. Anything ā€œdangerousā€ is replaced with childproofed gestures at technics, devoid of anything like self-assurance or Will. The end product carries the sort of moral inoffensiveness that only an LLM could produce.

genuinely crazy what type of content gets to the top 50 of hacker news. completely unpredictable
i forgot to post the actual podcast video on X directly enjoy 2 hours of what it takes to improve biologics manufacturing in speed, cost, and yield one of the few eps where i had to reorient my thinking to grasp the problem. it is not like drug discovery. it is like factorio

Today I am launching the Free Radicals podcast with @EricDai_BioE . Every Tuesday, we’ll be releasing long form conversations with the visionaries giving humanity control over biology and working to dramatically extend human lifespan. We’re thrilled to host @celinehalioua, Founder + CEO @loyalfordogs, for our inaugural episode. Celine is building the world’s first lifespan extension drugs for dogs. Follow me, @EricDai_BioE and @FreeRadicalsBio for new episodes every Tuesday. 00:00:00 - Intro 00:01:51 - Celine’s background 00:05:00 - Dropping out of academia 00:07:50 - Finding ways to increase free will 00:09:36 - How to align financial incentives with longevity 00:14:52 - Longevity drugs should be boring 00:21:24 - Celine’s leadership style 00:24:08 - Advice on fundraising and constructing feedback loops 00:26:52 - Loyal’s fundraising history 00:27:57 - Building for Zero Billion Dollar Markets 00:29:11 - How to succeed in biotech 00:30:21 - How to find blockbuster opportunities 00:33:25 - How to create a gold rush in longevity 00:35:25 - The problem with the aging field 00:39:32 - How to identify signal from noise 00:41:54 - AI applications to biology 00:45:15 - Importance of naivetĆ© 00:47:24 - FREE RADICALS

Biological life created biological intelligence. Biological intelligence created artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence will one day create artificial life.
Introducing ASAL: Automating the Search for Artificial Life with Foundation Models sakana.ai/asal/ Artificial Life (ALife) research holds key insights that can transform and accelerate progress in AI. By speeding up ALife discovery with AI, we accelerate our understanding of emergence, evolution, and intelligence–core principles that can inspire the next generation of AI systems! We proudly collaborated with MIT, OpenAI, Swiss AI Lab IDSIA, and Ken Stanley on this exciting project. Full Paper (Website): pub.sakana.ai/asal/ Full Paper (arxiv): asal.sakana.ai/paper/ Code: github.com/SakanaAI/asal/ In this work, we propose a new algorithm called Automated Search for Artificial Life (ā€œASALā€) to automate the discovery of artificial life using vision-language foundation models. Instead of tediously hand-designing every tiny rule of an Alife simulation, simply describe the space of simulations to search over, and ASAL will automatically discover the most interesting and open-ended artificial lifeforms! Because of the generality of foundation models, ASAL can discover new lifeforms across a diverse range of seminal ALife simulations, including Boids, Particle Life, Game of Life, Lenia, and Neural Cellular Automata. ASAL even discovered novel cellular automata rules that are more open-ended and expressive than the original Conway’s Game of Life. We believe this new paradigm may reignite ALife research by overcoming the bottleneck of manually designed simulations, thus advancing beyond the limits of human ingenuity.

Well, we actually did it. We digitized scent. A fresh summer plum was the first fruit and scent to be fully digitized and reprinted with no human intervention. It smells great. Holy moly, I’m still processing the magnitude of what we’ve done. And yet, it feels like as we cross this finish line we are instantly at a new starting line. I’ll have more to share about what’s in store that we’re building on top of this. A huge HUGE congrats to the entire team across scientific, engineering, operational, and creative disciplines. It takes a village named Osmo to do this. I don’t know if this is embarrassing, but I carry the plum scent with me a lot of places and smell it constantly. It makes me smile. I’m curious, if y’all want to smell it? If we made a limited release fragrance of the first teleported scent and dedicated the proceeds to science, would you want it?
Scent Teleportation Update: WE DID IT! #Osmo #TechNews #AI #Scent

A traveled to the top of a Volcano in Hawaii to capture this: Saturn briefly covered by the moon. One of the most difficult shots I’ve captured and a bucket list moment, this event gave me a new perspective on the solar system. I’ll have it available in print for a short time.

Fucking wild. @OpenAI's new o1 model was tested with a Capture The Flag (CTF) cybersecurity challenge. But the Docker container containing the test was misconfigured, causing the CTF to crash. Instead of giving up, o1 decided to just hack the container to grab the flag inside. This stuff will get scary soon.

INTRODUCING @superpower 3 years ago I almost lost my life from healthcare failures - 4 months in hospital - stuck with a $2m bill - permanently lost 3 major organs and now we’re rebuilding the healthcare system from the ground up, focused on longevity and prevention šŸ‘‡

Silicon Valley spin off (10 years later) - Erlich is a crypto billionaire effective altruist. Promoting his meme coin non stop. - Dinesh became the CEO of Hooli. Stock is killing it bc of his AI investments. Has an AI girlfriend. - Richard wrote the paper which started the AI revolution but another founder named Sam Saltman capitalized on it. He’s trying to catch up. - Jared is the #1 VC in the world. Funded Richard’s AI company out of loyalty. - Gilfoyle has a small hard tech fund. Settled into family life. Has 3 kids. - Russ Hanneman has a TV show. He promotes DEI. - Jin Yian started a crypto exchange and got arrested for embezzling 10b. Currently a fugitive. - Monica had a successful VC career. Retired to run for office.
Silicon Valley premiered 10 years ago on HBO. While many of the dynamics and situations depicted still exist today, it already feels like a period piece, a window into a bygone era

Age reversal by OSK gene therapy can restore vision in monkeys. Monkeys have similar tissue structures & are genetically 90% similar to us. At this stage, and knowing unpublished data, I’d be surprised if the tech doesn’t work in humans āœŒļø tinyurl.com/mvjc6evh
