Gotta say it's pretty encouraging that 40% of last year's total global growth of energy demand was provided by renewables (+nuclear) : 4.91 EJ out of 12.3 EJ total. And that's including the drag from hydro.

I disagree, quite thoroughly. This seems to place the origins of the current culture war over higher education at the hands of universities embracing a particular framework, when in fact what we are seeing is a symptom of a materialist and social shift. A thread: /1
This is what we're witnessing – the dismantling of public higher ed in conservative states – and we've created the conditions for what's going on at UNC. How did anyone think we could get away with being nakedly ideological for years without any chickens coming home to roost? 1/

The same party has been ruling for 72 years so not sure how profound the revolution against oneself needs to be in order to disempower the other factions while keeping the masses in check by convincing them that the foreign influence that helped China rise is now the enemy. Ok.

There will be three main effects of this presidency if it continues: 1. He will worsen the pandemic multifold (in addition to what he has worsened) 2. He will stoke divisions 3. He will vastly augment suffering, which he will be able to direct into widespread violence Please RT.

Here's what Greta would learn in Economics 101: Allowing companies to freely pollute the atmosphere leads to terrible outcomes, and that a policy response is urgently required. Sounds like she's got it all figured out. Mnuchin, less so.

If we can price things to include their costs to our environment and society, and pay people enough wages to buy sustainable products, our world can last a bit longer for us to enjoy. This Christmas, let's hope for a growth driven by greater conscience to help protect this Earth.

This is where a more global perspective might help. There are far deeper levels of corruption than this, and instead of constant pearl clutching we should learn from people in countries that have gone through this kind of institutional collapse and recovered

As #HongKong’s civil servants mass on the streets, Beijing needs to look long & hard in the mirror & ask one question. Other than the @hkpoliceforce, triads & PLA, who else stands with you? Time for an exit strategy: genuine democracy! JW
