(surprised pikachu face, but) it still hits me a couple times a day how absolutely tedious the previous 10 years of my work as a software engineer has been compared to this past year
i can literally get something done in an afternoon that, at the beginning of my career, would have taken weeks/months for an entire team of devs.

I genuinely feel like something is collapsing in modern society, and I think we need to have an honest conversation about the role feminism has played in it.
For generations, marriage, family, commitment and raising children were considered fundamental parts of building a stable society. People worked towards building a life together. Men and women had different responsibilities, but there was a shared understanding that both were contributing to something bigger than themselves.
Today, somewhere along the way, we’ve started treating almost every traditional relationship dynamic as oppression.
Marriage is portrayed as a trap, compromise is labelled as losing your identity, motherhood is sometimes presented as a career setback, and men are increasingly expected to prove their worth while women are encouraged to see relationships primarily through the lens of what they can gain from them.
And the irony? We’ve confused independence with never needing anyone, equality with competing against men, and empowerment with rejecting anything that requires compromise.
I’m not arguing against women’s education, financial independence or equal rights. Those things matter. But when a movement that was supposed to improve relationships between men and women starts framing men and women as opposing teams, shouldn’t we question where we’re heading?
A society cannot survive on individualism alone. It needs commitment, responsibility, mutual sacrifice, stable families and people willing to build something beyond their own personal gratification.
Maybe the problem isn’t that women have more choices today. Maybe it’s that we’ve stopped teaching both men and women what to do with those choices.
And perhaps we should start asking whether the version of empowerment we’re celebrating is actually making relationships, families and society healthier—or simply making everyone more disconnected.

Dear @Uber_Pune @Uber_India
There must be some way of making sure that -
1. Cars dont smell like a homeless person slept in it overnight.
2. Drivers are not on phone all the time thru the ride.
Thank you.

Yes, the number of vehicles without any plates at all is also quite surprising. No enforcement, no fear or any action.
It's not a number plate, but a slap on the face of law enforcement agencies of Maharashtra. Unfortunately, @DGPMaharashtra seems to be quite used to such slaps, given the sheer number of vehicles with illegal plates/no plates plying on MH roads.

Same for traffic police as well. We usually see them only during VIP visits.
Among some of the cities I have recently visited, feels like Pune has the least number of traffic police on the road/at signals/key intersections.
Pune metro region population is now over 10 million, and has well over 7 million registered vehicles!
Where are the traffic cops? One issue I think (wrote about this a decade back...) is that the strength of the traffic police force hasn't kept pace with the number of vehicles! (among the highest in the country).
Lack of traffic police on the road is one key reason why we see routine traffic violations and lawlessness on the road.

Hmm... is this what it takes? (see Bengaluru update below)
Can we get ministers to start touring and inspecting each individual road in Pune?

Best explanation why young people want socialism is because they’ve never lived in one. Send them to a summer camp in North Korea & let them face how socialism works in real life. Or send them to the museums on Communism in the former Soviet bloc countries to get a reality check.

Remember, the real intention behind projects like road widening, flyovers, and tunnels is not to solve traffic congestion, but to mint money through tenders and contracts.
If the real goal were to solve traffic congestion, they would invest in #public #transport instead.
Pune: Heavy traffic congestion was reported on the Sinhagad Road flyover in Pune during the morning rush hour, with long queues of vehicles bringing traffic to a crawl. The congestion caused considerable inconvenience to commuters.
Vehicles lined up along the flyover as traffic movement slowed significantly, leaving several motorists stuck in long queues.
The rush of office-goers and other commuters travelling during the morning peak hours added to the traffic pressure. As a result, the Sinhagad Road flyover witnessed severe congestion, causing delays and frustration among motorists.

Pune's elected reps and administrators have rural mindset. They have no sense of modernity, aesthetics, or design.
Their only aim is to impress fellow country cousins with cars, hoardings, and real estate deals. What else can explain the pathetic state of their wards?
5+ years on... and the stretch of Baner Road near @IISERPune continues to be a big disaster. Surface is worse than a warzone.
Do civic authorities assume that since thr metro work is going on for a decade now), they can ignore the road maintenance work underneath? 🤔
This is true for most metro/flyover/other infra projects. Neighbouring roads, footpaths are a huge mess.
Most of Baner Road has this problem.

There is so much economic benefit of this corridor. However no seriousness from @NHAI_Official

The 1948 anti-Brahmin pogrom is India's most deliberately erased chapter.
After Gandhi's assassination, Maharashtra didn't see justice. It saw collective punishment.
Across Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Belgaum, Pune - thousands of innocent families were targeted. Homes torched, shops looted, women assaulted, families driven from ancestral soil.
No judicial commission. No inquiry. No accountability.
Not because it didn't happen. Because the victims were politically inconvenient to defend.

The government is to be blamed for using the government as the primary instrument for bringing about development and change.
Give MSMEs big tax breaks and easier access to credit at lower cost (without discrimination); they will do the training bit, just like the IT services sector did before.
Today I had a discussion with one senior office bearer of an MSME organisation, and he clearly said, "India does not have a dearth of jobs. India has a dearth of willing people who want to do jobs."
Most upskilling institutions and projects funded by the government are not bringing any result because they are not able to find willing people to upskill. Most industrialists of MSME nature are looking for more qualified, skilled people. They are unable to find them so far.
So the govt cannot be blamed for this totally. They have tried. Something the youth will also need to do besides making reels

Every year, IT engineers, doctors, lawyers, CAs, architects , Bankers & other professionals in Maharashtra pay up to ₹2,500 as Professional Tax.
But a simple question needs an answer:
Where does this money go, and what does the Government do specifically for the professionals who pay it?
Is there a transparent statement showing the collection and utilisation of Professional Tax?
Professionals pay every year.
Shouldn’t there be accountability every year?
