"[I]n early democracies, as in American democracy at the time of its birth, all individual human rights were granted on the ground that man is God’s creature. That is, freedom was given to the individual conditionally, in the assumption of his constant religious responsibility.”

I’m conservative and I love Juneteenth.
It’s a chance to celebrate what America ultimately did right—even if I wish it had been at our founding, not decades later.
As @KevinRobertsTX writes, “The holiday celebrates what President Abraham Lincoln called ‘a new birth of freedom’ for America. It celebrates the completion of the work of July 4, 1776—the extension of liberty to all Americans. It also commemorates the untold numbers of young men who died in the war fighting for that freedom.”

Erlich is proof that you can say literally the same thing for five decades in a row - and be wrong every time - and still get attention from the media and academics.
“The next few decades will be the end of the kind of civilization we’re used to.”
Humanity is consuming 175 percent of what the earth can regenerate. Biologist Paul Erlich says that our current way of life is unsustainable. cbsn.ws/3Gvv8mC
