I will tolerate recurrent laryngeal nerve slander no longer! It's actually the result of several elegant solutions to difficult problems in embryology, and the length is a non-issue. A 🧵 1/13
My meager education in biology and evolution gave me the mistaken impression that evolution optimized everything. But it didn't. One example is the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN). It goes from behind your ear, loops down below your aorta, and then back up to the voice-box 1/2

I'm really curious why the main ticket splitting I'm seeing in Texas is for the Railroad commissioner.
I'm from Texas you can tell by the way..

80% of this list is just Japanese real estate bubble papper assests. The one Saudi on the list got busted for basically mega bank fraud. Yeah, you only recognize Sam Walton because he was the only one that actually built an economically productive company.
This is a list of the richest people in 1989. I would never have guessed a single one outside of Sam Walton. The world has changed a lot in 40 years.

To balance this out we clearly must grind Mercury down into a Dyson swarm to reset the fates to the new default.
I’m sorry but this is one of the funniest post I’ve seen in a while. 😂

The fundamental assumption here is that nobody else ever actually starts launching reusable rockets, which is surely a shock to Rocket Lab, Relativity, Stoke, and Firefly.
For the last ~5 years, the first slide in virtually every space startup's pitch was about "falling launch costs" and/or "Starship launch mass" Neither of those premises has come to pass, and I don't think many startups or VCs have realized that's not where the world is headed

Arguing with people online about space based data centers is fascinating because I've never seen someone become an "infrared radiation doesn't actually transfer heat"-truther before.

"Sir, our datacenters are critically low on power, and we have no hope of securing more." "We have a way..." "You wouldn't dare!" "Release the Applegate 2.0 Duo and drop a touchscreen Macbook at once! Also check the generator shaft into Steve's grave. Apple MUST be brave."
We brought Touch to the Mac! From the all-new iPad mini to the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac... and now MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch, creators have new tools to do their best work yet.

Apple bravely innovates a FOMO Apple tax of asking for the second child as well as firstborn.
What in the hell.

They must feel mortified.
Morton salt is mined 2,000 feet below Lake Erie. And now the lake is leaking into the mine. The mine was evacuated, with no injuries. Do not expect the mine to reopen anytime soon. Or ever.

That's because the biggest joke is America getting the ideas for our republic from the French then watching France repeatedly fail at their own idea
Americans thinking they can actually put up a fight against French twitter is hilarious Americans only have 2 jokes about france

The ideal America is made up of the best bits of culture from around the world, voltroned into an unstoppable melting pot carrying the best of humanity as a whole with us to the stars.
As i jamaican i can speak. Bitch what fucking culture? America WISH they had culture, its just made up of different cultures mix together. Only thing American is known for excluding influence of Africa is White people horrible cooking. Green beans casserole or boil chicken. Everything else is someone else culture with yours

There is no more pressing example of why humanity needs to expand beyond the Earth than the fact it's easier and cheaper to build a megaconstellation than to fight through existing interests here on earth.
So under Biden, Congress allocated $42.45 billion for a program to get rural Americans broadband internet. Like it or not (I wouldn't have voted for it), the money has gone out. Mostly private companies got the money to build the infrastructure, but surprise surprise, many rural Americans still can't get broadband internet. The reason why is infuriating. In Virginia, Comcast received a $126 million to connect approximately 13,000 locations. But they've been blocked from actually doing the job by the utility company in the state (Appalachian Power). Utility companies own most of the power lines, and while it's common practice for other carriers to rent the use of them, in this case, Appalachian Power is holding the poles hostage unless Comcast ALSO pays for the repair and maintenance of the poles they haven't been doing basic upkeep for. The FCC told them this was illegal but they won't stop. Billions of American dollars, no broadband, all because the utility monopolies have gone rogue.

This makes a lot more sense when you realize they're trying to compete with Starship and the easiest way to disguise the fact you can't get to full reuse is to just delete the payload separation mechanism and pretend you're a genius.
“It's a fundamentally novel approach to rocketry in the modern era, in our opinion. [...] The cargo vehicle is the payload in space.”
