#topoli #onpoli Last point: picture = 1000 tweets. This is what happened to social housing in Canada between the early 70s and 2000. Imagine if that production level at the left of this graph remained constant....
#topoli #onpoli Further to this, Canadian govts, both federal & provincial, built social housing for decades, until those programs were axed in the late 80s/early 90s. Just as @oliviachow's prop tax hike is making up for lost ground, govts have to get back into building housing.

This is Prissa. She showed me the tarp she is living under in Edmonton last night in -33 weather. She said she and her boyfriend keep warm with candles while huddling underneath. She said she avoids the shelters and explains why in this video. Her tent and belongings were thrown out by city officials in December. – at Stony Plain, Alberta

Peggys Cove Rd is reported to be at least partially washed out in a number of locations, but I don’t have the locations all written down. Prospect Rd side as well.

Welp. They're doing it. #Barrie City Council are set to pass a bylaw this Wednesday night that criminalizes providing survival items to unhoused people on public property, with zero public engagement. It's undemocratic and it's mean. This is not how we take care of each other.

“Unprecedented”- there’s no better word to describe the crisis at #CHEO. Yesterday, we reassigned our Surgical Day Unit and redeployed clinicians from all areas of the hospital to open a second Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

👀 Sneak a peek at the deepest & sharpest infrared image of the early universe ever taken — all in a day’s work for the Webb telescope. (Literally, capturing it took less than a day!) This is Webb’s first image released as we begin to #UnfoldTheUniverse: nasa.gov/webbfirstimages/
ALT The background of space is black. Thousands of galaxies appear all across the view. Their shapes and colors vary. Some are various shades of orange, others are white. Most stars appear blue, and are sometimes as large as more distant galaxies that appear next to them. A very bright star is just above and left of center. It has eight bright blue, long diffraction spikes. Between 4 o’clock and 6 o’clock in its spikes are several very bright galaxies. A group of three are in the middle, and two are closer to 4 o’clock. These galaxies are part of the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, and they are warping the appearances of galaxies seen around them. Long orange arcs appear at left and right toward the center.
