Kudos @BiancaJagger and gratitude for your generous words. @BiancaJagger says ‘Silence is not neutrality. Indifference is complicity. The world must act. Afghan women and girls must not be abandoned’
👉🏿 I urge everyone to watch Banished: The Taliban’s War on Women, the latest powerful and deeply disturbing documentary by the outstanding and courageous journalist @AlexCrawfordSky.
Five years after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, Alex Crawford returns to expose the devastating consequences of their systematic persecution of Afghan women and girls, who continue to be stripped of their fundamental human rights, denied education, employment and freedom of movement, and increasingly erased from public life.
What Afghan women and girls are enduring is nothing less than gender apartheid and a form of modern-day slavery. The Taliban have imposed a brutal system of institutionalised oppression and subjugation upon an entire female population, stripping women and girls of their fundamental rights, their freedom, their independence and their autonomy over their own lives. They are being denied the right to determine their own futures, reduced to a condition of enforced submission and deprived of their dignity and humanity.
Yet, despite this relentless persecution, Afghan women continue to demonstrate extraordinary courage and determination, refusing to surrender their rights or abandon their hopes for a better future.
I commend Alex Crawford for her unwavering commitment to exposing these grave injustices and giving a voice to women whose courage and resistance deserve the world’s attention and solidarity.
The international community must not look away. We cannot stand by while an entire generation of Afghan girls is deprived of an education, its dreams and its future. The Taliban must be held accountable for their systematic violations of women’s and girls’ fundamental human rights.
Silence is not neutrality. Indifference is complicity. The world must act. Afghan women and girls must not be abandoned.

Some of the sharpest analyses of Israeli politics come from Daniel Levy.
This should be subtitled in every language. Short, clear, impeccable.
Daniel Levy | Former Israeli Peace Negotiator | US/Middle East Project (@USMEP):
Netanyahu did not alone commit genocide for 3 years. He did not alone maintain decades of illegal occupation. It was system-wide.
Eisenkot was part of it & served in the military. He sat in the emergency unity security cabinet after Oct. 7 - during the genocide.
Israeli generals, soldiers & judges - all part of a system-wide mobilization. Dissenting voices existed but remained marginal.

A Cairo court has ordered the closure of Mada Masr and the confiscation of its equipment. Editor-in-chief Lina Attalah was charged with running an “unlicensed website” and fined over $50,000. She has since been released, but the case against the outlet stillstands.
This is not an isolated attack and comes as part of the latest crackdown on independent media in Egypt: six Matsadaash journalists remain in detention, journalist Rasha Azab was questioned over social media posts, and 25 journalists are currently imprisoned in Egypt.
Defending these institutions is essential to safeguarding public-interest journalism and press freedoms across the region.
We stand in solidarity with our Egyptian colleagues and call for an immediate end to their persecution.

When the Oxford children's dictionary discarded dozens of nature-words—"dandelion," "fern," "starling"—as irrelevant to children's imagination and replaced them with words like "broadband" and "cut-and-paste," this inspired act of resistance was born: themarginalian.org/2019/06/1…
